The game is built with a DB world template of sorts, and a vast Database-like knowledge of its story, like a collaboration of all the biggest DB nerds combined. You start off as some sort of being that can possess whatever characters you want, and fuck with the timeline however you see fit. Game uses AI to generate scenarios and plotlines, and the possibilities are literally endless. You could just play DB/DBZ/GT normally, or you could go on some quest as Oolong, and crazy shit happens within DB logic to somehow overcome all threats and become strongest God in the multiverse.

Yes I know, we hate AI, but something like that could really work for a DB game, as most the ones that work basically do the what ifs pre-scripted anyway. The technology is there to make the possibilities endless now. Why not?.

No, when people say GT killed the series, they mean it was actually dead for a while in Japan. Not just the show ending, games and merch also came to a sudden halt. You had one release tying into GT (Final Bout) in 1997 and then have to jump for 2002 for new games, that mostly existed to tie into the North American release of Dragonball. Even Japanese developed games like Budokai and Legendary Super Warriors at this point had releases in other countries before Japan, which would be crazy in any other context.

The current situation has games continuing so far, but the newest source material they're pushing is unpopular which might cause either a break or changes in the focus of the games after their sales fail.
