Depends. Asulym has the best pacing because it's linear. It's a solid package. City expands on it, but while the more open map is cool and all, it's also a bit too much content. The main story is better tho, especially ending. And Knight is a bit like City expect you have a car.

Depends on what you want. The combat mechanics just get better and better, the stealth slightly improves over time, and of course the graphics improve. The more compact Metroidvania-style map of Asylum goes away for bigger and bigger maps which is okay in City but gets to be a lot in Origins while Knight gives you the Batmobile to travel faster on the ground. City and Origins have good bosses, Knight goes back to bad bosses. Nothing in the later games is as cool as Asylum's Scarecrow segments despite some attempts. The story peaks in City while being weakest in Knight because they wrote it in-house instead of getting Dini again.

The great animation helps. Is that Asylum? There's a couple of moments where Batman just teleports over to the enemy but I remember the games actually did a really good job making the flow of combat feel a genuine brawl rather than Batman being a big enemy magnet.
