Have you ever made actual money selling in game items?

I remember selling all my TF2 inventory after that shitty MYM update and made a lot of money. So much so I spent years without putting money on steam and even bought games to my friends in exchange of money as well

I sold my steam inventory in 2017 and I had a shit ton of spelled items now I regret it because it has skyrocketed in price and I could've gotten much more than what I've gotten back then

Yeah, it was definitely an investment when taking in consideration that modern video games like fortnites or gacha slops are being literal money sinks that leave you with nothing when they unevitably reach or will reach their end of support or planned obsolescence. We definitely didn't have it as bad as others do now

I bought a CS:GO skin in 2016 for like 25 bucks, it's worth over a grand now but I dread having to interact with the traderjews to actually cash out.

damn, that was a pretty good investment.
I guess you will have to interact with God's chosen sooner or later to cash out

Yeah, coinflipped all of my inventory on rustypot a few years ago and won like 4 times in a row, doubling down each time. Haven't gambled again since then, it's all rigged I just got lucky

Actual money no.
I made some steam funbux here and there selling csgo skins that went up in value over some years.

yeah, a lot, by my estimate, around 50k before i quit

pic related, those CS2 numbers exclusively CS2 i bought on the ingame store to sell for paypal money, so minus a ~10% discount so people would buy my keys and not get em from valve, i say i got 10k

now the money to buy those keys i got from trading items on TF2, and that is much mroe difficult to estimate, i would take advance of an arbitrage between the price of metal and the community market price of items, so for instance, a genuine hat may be worth 2 refined metal, id buy a number of them, sell em on the community market, use the money to buy mann co keys or tickets, sell those keys and items for refined metal, and i would end up with more metal than i originally invested

eventually i automated most of the process using bots, except the process of selling stuff on the market, cuz valve has rules against that, but i did make a chrome extention that calculated the optimal price and wrote it on the text box, so i basically only had to hit "accept" repeatedly

every week or so, id have extra keys from all the trading that would sell for paypal cash until i noticed CSGO keys were more profitable, but they valve added a 7 day waiting period before trading those so i went back to TF2 keys

i bought a ticket out of my stinking country using this method, i only stopped back in 2019, when i noticed the process wasnt generating any revenue anymore, so i cashed out all my inventory, and just kept the hats i use on TF2
