I got a mecha membrane keyboard and its exactly the same as a mechanical one, cost €20. I wonder how much things people spend money on are memes. 1440p, 4k, mechanical keyboards, etc

they're all memes

Yeah, it's not the best value, but you pretty much require it for fighting games (which is why I bought it in the first place) or platformers.

Does being a meme impact the quality in any way?
a “mecha mechanical “ isn’t the same in any real sense. It just bears a similar aesthetic and maybe has some sound you like or something. But it probably doesn’t really matter to you anyway

Nice thread

I'm looking for a new keyboard too.
What I want :
- Linear Switches (like Red)
- Numpad
- Durability

I already have a Logitech superlight 2 mouse, should I go with G915X Lightspeed?
I'm just wondering if Flat keycaps will be durable or not. Also, most Pros in e-sports seem to use regular keycap. Worst case scenario, I can still use that keyboard for Switch 2 or PS5 with Bluetooth/dongle.

Anyway, here what I hesitate to buy :
- Razer Huntsman Pro V3
- Logitech G915X Lightspeed
- Steelseries Apex 3 Pro

Any tips /v/ros?

More Money Than Sense:
Model F or Beam Spring keyboard from New Model F, it is the only way you're going to get a vintage keyboard with N-key rollover
I Want A Metal Keyboard:
Keychron Q series keyboard of your preferred layout, Monsgeek M series keyboard of your preferred layout (Monsgeek is cheaper)
I Want A Plastic Keyboard:
FL Esports series keyboard of your preferred layout (CMK is their "deluxe" brand, most other naming schemes are similar to Leopold), 8bitdo mechanical keyboard of your choice in either full-size or TKL with optional numpad + calculator
I Want A Plastic Keyboard That Isn't Expensive:
CIY X77 (TKL), basically anything by Redragon

Best switches by type
>light linear
Dog shit switch type, reconsider your life
>medium/heavy linear
Gateron Oil Kings, Gateron Yellows
>light tactile
Kailh box brown v1
>medium/heavy tactile
Boba U4T, MMD Princess tactile, Chosfox Voyagers (Voyagers have clearance problems on taller keycaps like MT3)
>silent tactile
Boba U4
>light clicky
Kailh box white
>medium/heavy clicky
Gateron Melodics, Kailh box jade & navy

Best keycap profiles are MT3 (only buy on BOGO sales for best value and preferably buy the PBT sets like /dev/tty), Keychron KSA, and Akko ASA for shorter keycaps. Cherry/OEM profile is total fucking dog shit

ABS vs. PBT is purely up to preference, ABS feels more "hollow" and polishes from finger friction over time, but some people like this look and feel. "Doubleshot" means the piece of plastic is injected twice all throughout the keycap, if you cut a keycap in half you will see its legend distributed through the entire cap and the underside will have two-tone plastic from this second injection

Avoid any keyboard that doesn't list "hotswappable" or "hot swap" capability, these hotswaps are socketed ports on the PCB for switches to be easily taken in and out. There is no mechanical advantage to direct soldering switches in

Avoid "mechanical feeling" or "memchanical" keyboards like the fucking plague

Just take all the keycaps out and wash them separately. While they're drying, blow out the majority of the grime with an electric duster instead of those shitty cans of compressed air. To get into the nooks and crannies, use a toothbrush or cotton swabs with isopropyl alcohol/whatever cleaner you have. Dry off the keys and then put them back on.

bought this one awhile back, expensive (compared to what i had got in the past anyway) but have had no issues for at least 5 years, possibly more i cant remember how long. Only complaint is that it is annoying to clean since you have to take out all the keys but I guess that goes more most mechanical keyboards.
Best method I have found to clean these types is a wet paper towel wrapped around a toothpick and then just go through the insides with that

Be aware that putting the light diffusers back in the side is a bit of a booger with a screwless plate like that. A clever Redditor from some years back says to put the diffusers back in their housing on the sides of the keyboard, put the plate on, then anchor the diffusers by putting the diffuser's screws into them through the top and through the FR4 plate's threadless screw holes.

Also be aware that if you don't assemble things right, your knob will feel like it's grinding when the board is back together and you try to use it.

if you want to improve it's worth checking out type monkey, it will give you randomized words from a pool of the top 1000 english words. IMO it makes more sense to grind out heavily used words rather than wasting time with the random quotes that type racer uses since some of them have rather eclectic language that you will rarely see.

Not that guy, but I can get 190 wpm on type monkey because it's just random words and there's no sentence structure, capitalization, punctuation, etc. meanwhile on typeracer I get 150.

It's obvious why typeracer is objectively better, assuming that you actually want to learn how to properly write.

as someone who has been learning it for a long ass time... First, memorize the alphabet (really straightforward, should take a few hoursish). Then get a really straightforward beginner textbook, I used one that was called "integrated Korean," which has both text books and work books. I also used talk to me in korean which was a different text book series. During that you'll have to grind out some grammar and vocab, which will be super dry at first, but Korean is pretty straightforward in the early stages.

Once you knock out some low level text books, I recommend hiring an online language tutor (someone to just sit on discord with you and either answer questions, listen to your momentarily mangled korean, and speak to you in a simple enough but conversational manner) and or getting a korean GF to serve the same role. Then have a goal in mind, the easiest being to pass the first level of korean fluency exams. That will give you a big list of vocab and grammar to go after, and by the time you finish the first exam you should be pretty decent in basic conversation. Then you can either visit Korea or pursue harder fluency exams, or grind out more grammar/text books/vocab.

The tutor thing sounds dumb but I found it SO effective. I'm also still very close friends with my tutor, we even went to japan together.

Mechanicals have hit kind of an apotheosis and there's not much practical difference between a $30 keyboard and a $100 one. If you have dielectric grease and packing foam or liquid silicone around you can also DIY all of the premium stuff that goes on with higher grade keyboards.

I got a G915X a few months ago, and the volume wheel is already almost unusable. It's completely random whether scrolling it up or down will increase or decrease volume, and sometimes the volume shoots up to 80% when I'm trying to go from 35% to 30%. EVGA Z15/Z20 with the silver Kaihl switches. Has numpad and its also hotswap in case you dont like the switches, it's also made with metal, lots of sissy keyboard reviewers complained about it but its really not that heavy and its rock solid.
Don't know if they are still being sold but they shouldn't be more than 70 bucks, I got mine for 55 on a sale. Just replace the caps with some pbt keycaps for maximum comfy.

bought the picrel MSI Forge GK310 recently cause it let you take off the top plate and have "bezelless" look that I was thinking would be easier to clean, and it was hotswappable. it's also my first time using a linear switch (Outemu Reds) after using MX Browns for over a decade.

too bad the included switch puller can barely remove these switches and the included switches are wedged in there so tight they break upon removal. and I do want to remove them, I miss the feedback from my tactiles and bottoming out feels so hard and mushy...

Q3s apparently ship with OSA keycaps, not KSA, but if either of those are too tall for you you will most certainly not like MT3 which are among the tallest keycap profiles in existence. Check Akko ASA keycaps, they are a more dramatically sculpted version of Cherry/OEM, essentially Cherry/OEM height coupled with a top "scoop" sculpting like KSA or MT3

Ergonomics, also known as human factors or human factors engineering (HFE), is the application of psychological and physiological principles to the engineering and design of products, processes, and systems. Primary goals of human factors engineering are to reduce human error, increase productivity and system availability, and enhance safety, health and comfort with a specific focus on the interaction between the human and equipment.[1]

That explains it. Once I got accustomed to MT3 and KSA I found it very hard to go back to shorter keycaps, but it probably is just personal preference on my part. Anonymous No.715394343 [Report]

that's my keeb
what the other anons said, basically. Ergonomics.
It can be awkward at first (especially if you can't "touch type" so the split is weird, plus the keys are "columnar" instead of staggered), but it's a lot more comfy if you can manage to get used to it. I actually get 140WPM on monkey type with it now, which is faster than I am with a regular keyboard.

It's meant to match the natural curl of your fingers more. An easy to imagine difference might be hitting F4 or something. You're basically just pointing instead of moving all the way up there. Also notice the pinky columns are a lot more shallow.

Plus you have all those keys for your thumb instead of just spacebar. Which also ends up being pretty nice for gaming. I just adjust WASD over to ESDF
Anonymous No.715394701 [Report] >>715397475
>>715393583
yeah I've never had issues from typing either, but I also type for a living, so I like the idea of being preventative. Plus like >>715394260 said it actually is nicer if you do get used to it.
I've seen enough programmers who are otherwise physically fit and exercise end up with permanent issues that I'd just rather not take the chance. It's one of those things where you don't have any issues and then you do and they don't go away. I think if you type a lot but it's just shitposting and whatnot it's not quite the same. There's a certain threshold where it can become an issue, even if you're physically fit. If you don't quite reach that threshold maybe it just never matters. Maybe for me it never would have mattered anyway. Ended up being better all around, though so it doesn't matter.

If you can handle the split here what was so hard about the 'true' split? I'm guessing it was also columnar so the keys were shifted around a bit. I wonder if there are non-columnar split keyboards out there. I've never looked. I think if you ever wanted to give it another try, the main key is to take it really slow at first. Seems slow but you get back up to speed sooner than you might think, because you do already have the muscle memory, you just need to rewire it a bit. I think if you never take it really slow you just end up fumbling around making typos with old muscle memory forever.
