Super Robot Wars 30.

The segment where Kouji Kabuto from the Mazinger Infinity continuity is confronted with the fact that Dr Hell has managed to use the hijacked titular Mazinger Infinity to tap into the multiverse and bring himself back by body-snatching alternate-universe selves for as long as it will take him to defeat Kouji.

Kouji, being the absolutely excellent Bill & Ted enjoyer that he is, realizes that now knowing the multiverse and the potential of infinite realities are real - he can do that as well. And while he doesn't have enough time to finish building the new Mazinger design he had wanted while Dr Hell and Infinity are raining down an onslaught on his comrades in arms, he has time enough to finish the final parts of the plans for it that he had been working on - but had been afraid to commit himself to, out of shame of not being able to follow in his father's footsteps as a scientist and engineer.

Cue the infinite potential of realities of the omniverse, his future self completing it, and dumping it back to his past self to create a closed time loop ensuring the stability of its own creation. Three, two, one and out pops Mazinkaiser, along with its original theme that was way back when written specifically for SRW:

Another SRW 30 one.

SRW often features a small free-floating T-shape structure when Amuro Ray's Nu Gundam or Hi Nu Gundam uses its final attack, and/or when its 'psycoframe' power-up activates. This was often considered to be the series referencing Gundam's godfather Yoshiyuki Tomino, aka "T for Tomino"

SRW 30 turns that on this head. Its DLC pack containing the Hi Nu Gundam contains plot scenarios that reveal that little T to be no other than the perfected psycoframe control box - which is based on none other than the often thought useless Tem Ray circuit, created by Amuro's father after he'd suffered brain damage due to being exposed to the vacuum of space. Amuro had originally discarded it as a piece of useless circuitry that didn't do anything, along with the ravings of a mad man claiming that it would change the world.
Well- turns out; old Tem had his ducks in a row after all. And it's not "T for Tomino" - it's "T for Tem"

This game is anti kino. It throws cool looking scenes at us but with zero substance. It's all just empty flashy shit. Only the Bahamut segment had some sort of emotional substance to it. The game peaked there.

This whole fucking game you have to manage this obnoxious D-gauge. It always goes up, even outside of battle, and if it hits 100%, you get a game over.

You can spend it to 1-shot tough enemies and bosses, but it's a double edged sword, use too much and your save may be unwinnable.

This dread is always in the back of your mind. You have a general idea of how much longer is in the game at any time, but you never know for certain when it will end, so you save and conserve it.

Then, right at the end, you fight a boss that you cannot get into melee range with. Your only option is to use the dragon beam attack that deal damage, and increases the gauge, the longer you hold down the button. Maybe, just maybe you can kill it before you hit 100% and die.

As the boss's health melts, the gauge keeps going closer and closer to 100%, until it hits it and the boss isn't close to dead.

Did you fail?

No, the gauge shatters and keeps climbing.
