Leah is my maiden of choice. If it's not for waifufagging, I also like Aramis, Ithilion and of course Alain himself is a gigachad. Scarlett is also great.
Reminder that Virginia is the historically accurate choice for the MC
>>715373329>ScarlettWanted to say Virginia.

>>715373735Probably. Itโs an entry-level strategy game. Most people recommend picking the hardest difficulty even for your first run because the โnormalโ difficulty offers no challenge as long as you build your units moderately competently.
>>715373735I doubt most people that love UO have ever played Tactics Ogre.
Yes, you absolutely can. On the base difficulty, it's braindead easy. It's recommended to play on the highest difficulty, it's entirely doable. The game starts simple enough.
There is a demo, you can play for 10 hours and check the game out before buying. And you can keep your safe file.

For me, close tie between Berengaria, Railanor, Virginia, although Railnor is hardly developed. I was disappointed with Amalia, not nearly as useful or interesting as I expected her to be.
Just finished up my game this morning. 80+ hours, but unlike other games of that length (Rogue Trader, for example), I never got the point where I was just wishing it would end.
I don't think any character ever stole the show. While the main character is a machine late game, he isn't that strong early. And other characters that seem strong at first fall off later.
Overall, though, I really liked Rosalind and ended up giving her the maiden's ring.
>>715373510>Itโs basically a gacha game without all the fomo and shit monetization. This means literally nothing. Gacha games are defined by fomo and monetization. Genshin Impact and Uma Musume are both gacha games and their only commonality is fomo and monetization.
What you want to say is that the game simply doesn't ask a lot of the player to win, and that you don't need to explore all of its systems and understand them deeply to do most of its content. Which is not at all something unique to gacha games.
>>715373906I though it was more akin to Ogre Battle.
>>715383678>I don't think any character ever stole the show. While the main character is a machine late game, he isn't that strong early.Alain is always insanely strong. There's an early game magic sword damage that already makes him an unkillable terminator with insane damage. He just becomes an encounter wiper in the late game. I did a specialized team that jerked him off and they were essentially impossible to stop.
>>715383794It is. And I don't think Ogre Battlelikes are a genre. Though I wish they were because I like Ogre Battle a million times more than Tactics Ogre and its army of clones.
I married the dark elf because she's hot and she's brown

Would you want a sequel? We know there's a whole 'nother continent out there. I think they could make one more game out of the baseline Unicorn Overlord established, but they'd have to get crazy with the unit types and designs from the getgo. And crank up the difficulty.
>>715383927My end game team was him, Scarlet to heal him, and Yahna to buff him. Since you get two extra slots I put in Nina and a generic Owl.
Sure, he's good early on, but not exciting like Joseph, who can get anywhere on the field in seconds and destroy them instantly. My man unfortunately got benched in Albion. Clive was kicking ass all game though.
I definitely won't replay this anytime soon as it is very long, but I will do so eventually and will try the highest difficulty I unlocked. Next time I'll take advantage of building specialized teams sooner, I didn't realize how easy it is to catch up low level units.
>>715384218Yes, easily. Introduce a hard mode where every major enemy squad has personalized gambits and the game would be already improved tenfold. Also allow us to ship characters other than MC.
>>715373004 (OP)probably renault. but shoutouts to the tricorns, virginia, and the bear guy
>>715384218i would want a sequel because despite this game being like a 100 hour rpg, whenever i play and beat it, i feel like i want to do more.
>>715384218They could easily make a sequel that's mostly an asset flip with a timeskip and a different story and it'd actually be good.
But they won't because they hate money or something. They're going to completely scrap the concept, throw all the art and characters in the garbage, spend another 10 years making a completely different game, run out of money and ship it unfinished again, then release it only for Switch 2.
>>715373004 (OP)is this game an actual strategy game, I've played the demo and seen footage of some of the later maps and it really just looks like a powerantasy game disguised as strategy. I understand that teamcomps are a major part of the experience, but I dont really know how you can justify that when the actual strategy segments just consist of storming through armies until you win
>>715384979Yes. Set it to the highest difficulty and refrain from using items.
No, it isn't crushingly difficult at all, but you will need to think about what you are doing because there's a timer that means you can't camp out.
Most tactics games are really easy, so I'm not sure why it would be a complaint against this game.

>>715384979the purpose of this game is to collect all the sexy bitches
>>715385135>refrain from using items. Can't stress enough how important this is. Luckily most of them are useless to begin with, but the camping supplies break the game if you use them.
>>715384979Unit composition mostly is the game. The unit movement is very simple, remember it's designed to be played on a nintendo switch. You can do some micro for an edge but it's not starcraft. The meat of the game is building characters, assembling them into units, figuring out combos, adapting to enemy units, and sending the right units to the right places.
It is a very easy game though. I already play strategy games so I'd obviously be biased toward a more challenging game but yeah it's pretty easy. I'd rank the difficulty below Fire Emblem Awakening. If you like strategy games and don't purposely limit yourself you'll overcome the game's challenge before you've actually finished every region.
>>715385303Yeah I personally found awakening to be pretty agregious in terms of its difficulty, but I think at this point I'll take anything that even remotely resembles FE since that series hasn't had a fulfilling release in ages. Its on sale for $30 so I'm just gunning for it at this point.
>>715385195This also helps alot, the art direction and character designs are insane from those I've seen
This game made me realize SRPGs truly is a dead genre. So shallow and shit.
>>715385135Rework of how items work is definitely an improvement that can be made in a sequel.
I was able to limit myself, though mostly just because I'm a "save the megalixirs for the ultimate boss that never comes" gamer, so I had no issues. But if the higher difficulties just disabled any item that does something a valor ability does, that would indicate how to play it if you want more strategic depth. Item spam does remove that depth. Which is fine if you'll just playing as a waifu collector.
>>715385742If you like turn-based tactics you should try Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children. It's a lot more challenging than Fire Emblem too (I recommend playing on Hard but it has even higher difficulties)
>>715385742>the art direction and character designs are insane from those I've seenYup, there's something for everyone, but if you especially love knightesses, this could be your favorite game ever.
>>715373004 (OP)Absolutely fantastic game.
Best girls for me are Rosalinde, Eltolinde and Virginia without question. I only wish you could choose both Elves.
>>715386187Damn, you're right. They should have a poly route with the linde sisters and Meli on the side.
Mordon, Bruno and Amalia are my favourite characters.
>>715384979Yeah the teamcomps pretty much make up most of the strategizing since most maps are simply bulldozing to the goal, but most have side objectives. There are a few fun tricky maps that would make you play more strategically than just walking.
>>715387195I love that one early Albion map that has ships that spawns endless angels on you. Wish there was more of that kind of thing instead of the huge endurance tests.
>>715385742>Art directionIt's a Vanillaware game, the art is like 80% of the draw.
George Kamitani does great artwork. Still think it was hilarious when a western reviewer said the way he depicted women in Dragon's Crown was gross so he sent him this pic saying "maybe this is more your taste "
>>715373004 (OP)I love this l'il nigga here. Brainstorming ways to make him work was a challenge, but finding out he pairs up well with Liza as frontliners was rewarding.
>>715384979It's an optimizer's game. If you ever played a Fire Emblem game efficiently, you will probably find UO at least a little bit entertaining. I think a lot of people walk away with a negative impression because, basally, the game will not ask much of you to simply clear a level. You can sort of play like a retard and still win, relying on items and re-engaging the enemy multiple times to chip them away.
But if you try to play it well, there's a bit more ceiling to it than you'd expect. Not enough to sustain endless replayability, but there's some depth there. I personally enjoyed skipping straight ahead to the best kingdom after Cornia on one run (normally the 4th, after Cornia). Or defeating Amalia in Act 2, by actually 0ing her HP. Or figuring out the best route through Cornia itself on repeat runs. Or figuring out divine shard optimization, getting as many Sniper's Lenses asap, etc.
I would compare it to the Into the Breach level of depth or cognitive effort at the ceiling level, but Into the Breach is harder at the floor.
>>715388070>best kingdombeast kingdom*
though is also the best too
>>715387901This is something I have to do next time.
Feel like many of the regular shields are somewhat underutilized. At least in my playthroughs. A unit either has a good guard skill on their own, or it's a unit that you don't really want to block, so you probably give them something to buff stats instead (Landsknechts, for instance).
>baby's first vanillaware
>>715373510Yeah, hit to close home.
The worst thing is that there are foundations for really solid game but its just mediocre at best even with gorgeous vart and plenty of cute waifus.
>almost zero choices in the story and only one that matter for meme ending>no story branching>no game plus>easy even on hardest difficulty>no choices that matter>it drag too long It would be much better if harder and shorter but with many story branches and choices, secrets and recruitment characters, game plus modes etc.
Otherwise its just to play once which is shame.
>>715388439Nigga they don't have that many games. The more people buy their games, the better.
>>715388754He's right tho, they only make a game once every 2000 years
>>715388554I didn't really feel like the story needed branching paths, although it would have been cool to see a dark Alain route. I agree about the difficulty and the length though, Albion could have been cut with little lost.
>>715386187artists are such faggots.
>>715373004 (OP)how does it compare to ogre battle?
>>715388183I found Landsknechts to be entirely win-more units. Eventually dropped them entirely.
A bunch of units I never even tried though, that I will need to look into whenever I decide to replay:
Actually using elven fencer (I had one as part of the buff squad for my nuker)
Any Bestral aside from the Owl
They should make a gacha game out of this IP so we could get constant waifu updates
>>715373403>Reminder that Virginia was in the same castle as Alain the night they fled but the queen decided not to wake her
>>715373797Same. I married her. Great ending.
>>715389410I'm actually going to replay 64 in the near future to get a more up to date opinion, as I haven't played it since the early 2000s. Based on my memory though, Ogre Battle is filled with secrets, which aren't present here, but Unicorn Overlord has much deeper mechanics due to having what is essentially the gambit system.
I don't remember Ogre Battle being hard at all, but I of course got the bad ending from killing every single enemy unit with dragons and liches.
>>715389550Virginia was too busy getting rescued by the Knights of the Rose.

>>715393557While I stuck her in my main hero's squad just because I needed another body, that's another class I don't feel I utilized much. They always seemed quite annoying on the enemy team though.
The fact you can only ship Alain with a single girl is a travesty. You should be able to pair most boys and girls.
>>715395181personally i always felt pretty comfortable with two breakers on hand. never felt like i needed all three of the ones the game hands you by default. so out of the two playthroughs i did, i had to drop one of the three. which is too bad, because i like them all.
>>715395181They really only shine if you abuse Assaulting Blow or Row Smash with them along with Enrage, since they get to stack attack and accuracy before either deleting a row with an uncoverable unguardable attack or just decimating the enemy with an attack that gives AP back so they can do it again. There's definitely simpler ways to wipe out the enemy that don't involve tanking four hits to stack +80% attack and +80 accuracy, but it's a fun one. One of my squads was just Alain and Nina.

There were rumours doing the rounds at the time that Marvelous were only prepared to rerelease it if there was a PC version to sell to the Chinese, but Vanillaware dug in and refused, meaning it went nowhere. Last year, one of Sega's producers explicitly said on the record that they were pushing for a PC release of Unicorn Overlord but George said no and wouldn't budge.

>>715408734>>715408782The Unicorn's entire deal is about not *cheating*.

>>715409507>also, the nsfw part is clearly mild. The Imageset of Alain taking Railanor and Galadmir's virginities together and the other one of him deflowering all the Angels on the same bed immediately shows that's not true.
Most series wouldn't get even a fraction as much high quality defloration as UO got in those two series.
>>715409713Nah, that's only for a few of them. The game's a bit funny about that. Same as how it's a bit of a mess which rapports count as romantic and which don't, like Tatiana's rapport feels completely romantic but it's considered platonic rapport and so you get a platonic ending. That was a big deal for the people who wanted gay romance, since they basically got bait n switched, with the only actual gay options being Travis and Aramis.
Anyway doesn't matter regardless, since it wouldn't be breaking the rite. The idea would be to go into the rite in the first place with both Eltolinde and Rosalinde agreeing and happy to share.
>>715410464I feel like it's implied fairly obviously that the rite is a one-on-one thing
>>715412334Sure, but even so, it's still 100% about consent. The whole thing about breaking the covenant is about betraying the agreement that you and the "Maiden" make. That's why you can make it even with Josef or any other non-romantic partner, because the covenant isn't explicitly about romance it's about trust.
eg. If Alain, Rosalinde and Eltolinde agreed that they would each be with Alain, but that Rosalinde would be the maiden for the sake of becoming Cornia's Queen (since Elotolinde is Queen of Elheim) then the Unicorn would be completely okay with it.
If Alain, Scarlet and Virginia agreed that they would each be with Alain, but that Virginia would become the maiden for the sake of fulfilling Alain's latent incestuous desires for his mother, the Unicorn would be completely okay with it.
>>715412538You're over thinking it.
Also, that's headcanon.
>>715412635So is assuming the Unicorn will snipe anyone who has anything except a standard relationship. Like I said, the game makes it extremely clear the covenant is about trust.

Listen, I get that their games are loved, but they are 100% carried by the art. They are all too easy, take way to fucking long for how basic the gameplay is and the stories are window dressing.
Like I suck donkey dick at RTS games, yet at UO I'm a god. The reason to keep playing is the same as any ubishit game: clearing the map and 1% of the missions are legit fun.
Going to go full boomer, but why was it always okay to shit in realistic looking games if their entire selling point are the graphics, but once its some sort of handdrawn look, its suddenly fine to suck a games cock?
Disclaimer: I have not played Sentinals
>>715373004 (OP)>Game has bunch of difficulty options>Even the hardest is easyThis shit blows my mind
What the fuck is Vanillaware's problem, why don't they even give at least an actual Option to make their games not piss easy
>>715440610>Going to go full boomer, but why was it always okay to shit in realistic looking games if their entire selling point are the graphics, but once its some sort of handdrawn look, its suddenly fine to suck a games cock?Artistic values is different from "graphics". A game with a very unique and kino artstyle is not the dame as a game that just has impressive high rendered realistic graphics, which is what people usually refer to when they say a game has good graphics, not their artistic qualities.
Also, Vanillaware's appeal is not just the artstyle, but the entire presentation of their games, this includes the music and the often fairy tale like story tellings too.
Also don't confuse a gameplay being easy with the gameplay being bad. Vanillaware games still usually have tight controls and plenty of abilities/gameplay content. It's a shame that they never give you a proper hard difficulty option, but you can still make their games challenging with some self imposed restrictions, which can work well because the fundamentals of their gameplay are still well good.
>>715441928>this includes the musicIt's underappreciated how good the sound design in UO is. Listening to a knight unit tearing apart Zenoiran scum is orgasmic.
>It's a shame that they never give you a proper hard difficulty optionDragon's Crown endgame content is an absolute nightmare, especially for some classes. But I guess this doesn't count, since it's endgame. But I always felt like this game has a really good difficulty curve.
>>715375575Based and Bestralpilled
>>715440610Good art and audio are fundamental to a good game. It's very difficult to make a good game without them, and if they don't exist in a game that's not a fixable problem. Whereas game balance is just a matter of tweaking. You could adjust some numbers or do a self-imposed challenge and the difficulty problem is fixed. That's why UO is good despite lacking in some categories. Art, sound, and design are worth far more than difficulty and story. If your game is ugly or annoying to play it doesn't matter how well-balanced it is.
Even the NPCs are cute and likeable
Unicorn Overlord falls just short of being amazing. The game starts to lose steam towards the end of the fourth continent and the final one felt very unfinished. I am unsure what could have made me stay engaged longer. Either make the preceding part faster with some editorializing or introduce some new and interesting elements to keep the player's interest up.

>>715442949They needed a third promotion level for units. Levels don't affect that much, promoting is what really scales units' power. You and the enemy both have promotes by the third region, so once you get to the fourth region there's not much new to see and you already have optimal units that roll over everything. The game is way too long for only two class tiers.
Don't let sissy magicians rule over you, power through.
>>715443906All I see is Melisandre looking absolutely fabulous
>>715443743The new classes are worth trying out. Bears and Owls are OP as shit. No one even realizes this, though, because they don't bother trying out the new stuff. Plus, you continue to get significant equipment upgrades, like the Amber Sniper's Lens. I kept customizing and reorganizing my squads up to the end.
>>715385209She has nice titties
Shame about her personality though
>>715444170It's true that you can remake your squads, maybe the bigger issue is that you don't have to. Finding the strongest combo is satisfying but once you have it there's no incentive to switch things up, the game doesn't force you to adapt that much
>>715444170>No one even realizes this, though, because they don't bother trying out the new stuff.Nah, it seems they're introduced early enough that most people make a new unit with them or at least try them out. It's the angels that absolutely nobody bothers with
>>715444314I find that while, strictly speaking, you don't HAVE to change up your squads, the default state of a squad on any given map is sub-optimal. You usually need to make tweaks if you want to consistently one-round things, and I always take that as an opportunity to make larger changes.
>>715444426I've seen anons say they don't bother with bestrals, because they already have their permanent squads and they're weird/confusing or whatever. Featherbows are also amazing. Bit harder to recommend swords, shields, and staffs, though.

>>715393557yep this is the answer
>>715447256Comparing unique units to generic units doesn't really cut it.
Barely any generic unit is just good in isolation, they always benefit from set-ups and good compositions.
>>715444426yeah angels show up a bit too late to really feel like figuring out where to put them. Especially since by then you should have multiple kill squads who don't need to be edited further. The only reason I made one was because I saw the flying buff banner and wanted to use it also because angels are cute
>>715447484Comparing things is how you decide what's strong, adding exclusions to that just makes it pointless.
90% of the time when people say "X is OP!" they have some combination of amber lens/cat hood/Gilbert at which point any AoE is good.
>>715447823I feel UO would've greatly benefited from having an option to level scale the story to your completion % so you could do zones out of order without ending up over-leveling.
>>715442460>Reeeeeee! Filthy skinnies! Death to all h*mans!>Falls in love with a human and marries into the most powerful human family in the land. You love to see it.
>>715447256Well, that's not the right equipment/tactics to make them good. You want to spam Round Swing - a 225 potency split between 3 attacks (meaning it's effective at countering Deflect and Parry). Equipment is just a Sniper's Lens, initiative gear, and +AP gear. Nothing fancy. Their row attack pretty much kills everything in the game except, because it's unarguable and multi-hit with such massive power. Row cover skills are the only thing it struggles with, which are rare. Main downside is that they're slow, but initiative fixes are everywhere.
I know anons find Berengaria hot and all, but to be completely honest, she's always been kinda severely overrated. Her strongest attack is a single-hit 75 potency row attack, that gets an additional 75 potency (150) total against statused targets. It's kinda bad and weak frankly, and needs tons of support to kill anything in one sweep - besides the status itself. She basically depends on a status setup before she can even do mediocre damage.
>>715448347>I know anons find Berengaria hot and all, but to be completely honest, she's always been kinda severely overrated.I felt the same. Her damage simply isn't that good, even with the pursuit spam. If anything you're probably better of having her play support and spam her stun.
>>715448636Yeah, I mean she's weak as shit. She does have some things going for her, some decent utility skills, some initiative control, and she can work alright with some help. But it's bizarre to me that anons keep ranking her so high to this day. She just ain't that good.
>>715448030>Comparing things is how you decide what's strongOkay, but have you considered that unique units are unique and very limited? So you will use generics anyway. So, the argument that certain generic units are weak doesn't cut it if you will use them anyway while comparing them to limited uniques.
>>715449261>Okay, but have you considered that unique units are unique and very limited? So is plenty of equipment, like the sniper amber lense.
>>715449261Generics are not even weaker than uniques as a whole, anyway. It's one of those oft repeated myths in UO that has no real basis in anything other than "vibes." Some of the strongest classes are generic - Griffin, Wereowl, Breaker, Radiant Knight, Great Knight, Witch to name a few.
It's true that the unique classes are overall decent to good, but that doesn't mean they're better than all generic classes. The main thing that decides whether a class is strong is what equipment it can use and its skills. Uniques don't get access to special equipment, and every class has special skills, so the playing field is pretty level overall.
>>715448347>>715448636You aren't using her right. She debuffs the entire enemy squad, stuns the entire front row, and then has an extremely strong free (against afflicted targets) followup she uses every time an ally attacks. She also tanks and does massive single target damage to an afflicted target.
my problem with the last two continents was that by the time i reached there i already have my team built and working, i wasnโt going to swap members when i have something solid already, maybe the should have let us have 6 members in the party to try out every characters in the game.
>>715449603May be a case-by-case study, but I think what creates this impression is how many of the unique units are strong by themselves, without much setup. Like the already discussed Berengaria, you can put her in any team in the frontline and she will be able to sustain herself and hardly feel like a detriment.
>The main thing that decides whether a class is strong is what equipment it can use and its skillsThis is one reason why I was never much of a fan of Virginia as a unit. Two shields but only one special item doesn't really help her.
>>715449896At the end of the day you're killing things in UO. I would rather just kill things than status them or hit them a million times with a PP skill. Berengaria has a weird mixed offensive attacks with an affliction gimmick. No one real "killer app" moves. She's okay but there's no justifiable reason to rank her as a high tier unit. She's kinda middling in the campaign and straight ass in the coliseum (online and off).
>>715450098>May be a case-by-case study, but I think what creates this impression is how many of the unique units are strong by themselves, without much setup. Like the already discussed Berengaria, you can put her in any team in the frontline and she will be able to sustain herself and hardly feel like a detriment. She's definitely a generalist. I just wonder how desirable that really is in UO, where you want highly stratified role players doing 1 or 2 things really well.
>>715450219>She's definitely a generalistMeh, she can work as one, but she does best in debuff spam squads.
Which is probably one reason why many people pair her with Travos, not just for the story.
The rogue class is actually one that needs discussion, feel like they can do more than just spamming blind (even though, it's a good skill).
>>715450748>feel like they can do more than just spamming blind (even though, it's a good skill). Please share. Because their other attacks aren't ranged all their counters and AP/PP debuffs only hit the front rank, generally doing nothing into guard.
>>715449924They needed something to force you to use different squads. Maybe a cooldown system where you can't use a unit immediately after using them in a previous map. Environmental conditions on maps that disqualify certain units. Maps for certain characters only that force you to build squads from a restricted pool you might've never tried before. Forced/restricted deployment of certain units or unit types in general. Splitting the party into temporary groups that act separately so you have to reshuffle squads.
Also, probably controversial, but they shouldn't have had the Rapport system. Except for Alain, for marriage purposes. It incentivizes keeping squads the same forever and punishes you for switching them around. Just have the scenes play if you have the characters recruited and have beaten a certain map that unlocks them.
>>715450942Rapport bonuses are nice but pretty small overall. From a gameplay standpoint, you're not going to feel too big a hit from circulating characters around a bit.
Reminder than Virginia Is one of the few girl than Alain kiss in her confesion scene.
>>715450098I feel it's people conflating "this unit is strong" and "this unit does a gorillion damage". Outside of Gilbert and Selvaria/shamans, none of the support units really get the time of day in discussion. Tank units are considered undesirable a lot of the time because their damage is low.
>I was never much of a fan of Virginia as a unit. Two shields but only one special item doesn't really help her.Virginia has the unique skillset of 100% passive guard without a greatshield, freeing up slots for other uses. I actually prefer she has 2 shields over accessories because most shields go unused due to low block% or prioritizing the +PP ones.
>>715450859nta but I just slapped a raider on the team to make him un-guardable.
>>715450859Sorry, that's something I want to try next playthrough, haven't done yet.
But my idea is using Auburns/the housecarls War Horn ability, to make their Passive Steal unguardable, and use that to break frontlines and repeatedly buff other units.
Maybe I'll pair them with an elfen fencer frontline, using the Passive Steals PP to allow them to dodge (forgot the name of that equipment or ability). Or other shenanigans.
As you can see, I also want to make an elfen fencer frontline work. To me, it's a shame that they are often relegated to flier buffers.
>>715451041The fact that it's small makes it even worse. You're right that it doesn't actually matter much if you switch them around, but psychologically it feels more important than it is. So not only does it still discourage experimenting, it's also tricking the player when it does that. It's just not good game design for this kind of game, my guess is they copied it from Fire Emblem without thinking.
>>715450942No items fixes that.

>>715450219Here's the squad I used her on. Was useful all campaign and was even the squad I used to beat the penultimate boss (main character spin to win squad handled final boss). Nothing broken or overpowered, just an insanely tanky squad that spams counter and follow up attacks and doesn't die. Could this better? Yes, and whenever I revisit the game I'll change things up. I didn't look up any builds, but just adjusted based on how my squads did. But I found her strong all game.
My playstyle was tactical difficulty, no item abuse.

They argue over the tiniest, dumbest shit in the babbies games, yet no one ever dismisses FE gameplay because of its low difficulty. I get it, UO is an easy game. Most games are not that hard. Still fun to fuck around in, because it has strong core mechanics.
>>715452814Bruno is very popular with the girls.

>>715452925I don't get the complaints, I have never played a hard strategy or tactics RPG in my life. Though I'm not counting noob trap softlocks in FFT as difficulty. That's a ridiculous binary knowledge check.
Just don't be cheap. Never save scum, and don't use easy mode options. In this particular game, it is items. The games should implement some of those sort of things in hard mode. And I know the highest difficulty in this game kind of does. But you have to beat the whole game to unlock it and it just restricts item uses. Any item that lets you skip the rest mechanic shouldn't be available on hard, because that is the basic strategy of this game. Stamina vs. the Timer.

Game is forgiving in this case but I don't find it fun. I would prefer game with less convoluted system but more challenging.

>>715442949nothing wrong with albion but I think the game would have benefitted letting you tackle it earlier and scaling other continents up to compensate depending on how many missions you've done.
As it is now its mostly pointless to go out of order from the intended path except to early recruit yunifi for an SSS tier unit
>>715373403No, she needs to be shipped off to the neighbors to shore up the alliance
The best option is a local noble (mel) to build up local support or royalty from one of the neighbors (one of the twins but they are a bad choice since they straight up say they will take over the country after you die, Yunifi or Scarlett)

>>715460357they make good games because they're a bunch of jap boomers
they make terrible business decisions because they're a bunch of jap boomers.
>>715460169It's just the way people talk here, it's annoying. I played it last week, late to the party, and thought it was incredible. I get not liking it, but garbage? Fucken garbage? If it was a one-off, whatever, but when I looked for old threads in the archive after beating it, every thread had multiple comments calling it a tranny game, dogshit, no gameplay, etc. Utterly mental.
I don't think I've ever hated a bad game as much as site this routinely hates good games.

>>715460508Yes, the gameplay is garbage. It's braindead and boring. It looks ugly. It's a video game, and the game part of is defintely garbage. Your mileage on the story and characters vary depending on your tastes, and honestly it does nothing better than Megazone 23 when it's literally the same story just with some War of the Worlds or Godzilla sprinkled in. Actual time travel and less twists would have actually been better for it, but every twists just makes it lamer and lamer.
>faggot brings up 13S saying UO probalby won't be as good as it
>someone tells him 13S is shit, unsurprsing since its the most polarizing "game" they released
>NO YOU CAN'T SAY THAT
No comment. Unicorn Overlord is the best game I've played this year. I don't like Dragon's Crown and don't like Odin Sphere. I think they are actually kind of bad games.
>>715460742>Megazone 23You must be severely autistic to think anyone has watched this, or cares about it. I've never seen it mentioned on this site in over 10 years and I'm not new to anime. Just feels like you want an "own" with some obscure bullshit that no one can challenge you on.
>>715461101I've watched it, about 10 years ago. It is an exceptional anime from the golden age of anime.
Weird thing to bring up though. Similar premises are used it many sci-fi stories.
>>715461101Megazone 23 is hardly obscure if you actually like anime, newfag. Vanillaware themselves have sited it as the main influence so it's on you for not knowing about it. Sorry you're a secondary. After you calm down and swallow your pride, go watch it if you like 13S is all I can tell you.
>>715373004 (OP)I'd play this if I could play it on steam.
>>715461271Yeah, see. This is my point. I think this was your ultimate goal in bringing it up. Not to evaluate the merits of 13 Sentinels as a narrative - just to fish for an excuse to call someone a casual. You're a dumb person.
>>715461252This is how I feel. I've seen similar stories before - things that influence other things, but my first thought upon noting a similarity isn't "this new thing is like this other thing, so the new thing is bad." The thinking of an autistic.
>>715461689I brought up the bad game play but you decided to focus on Mega zone 23. Which I get why, you can't reallly defend the shit gameplay and it's a video game so that means you lost. Instead you decided to focus on the main influence to the story you didn't know.
>>715461808The gameplay is like 5% of it lol. It is obviously a visual novel and should be appraised on the merits of its writing (which is evidently bad because it's like another thing!). Stop being this retarded.
>>715461906The gameplay is more than 5% and you have to play it every time you try to progress the story lmao
>>715393557>>715397392>>715398747man Breakers were amazing, she obliterated those fucking bears in the Ice continent
>>715461025Yeah to me it has everything. Content, gameplay, story, characters, and visuals are all top notch. I played through it on hardmode and tried to not over rely on the battle preview (though honestly it can't be helped sometimes when you see some real nasty loses, but I'd eat a lot of small loses). It's just seeping with SOUL throughout.
>>715461025>and don't like Odin Sphere. My hot take is that the remade Liefraiser version of Odin Sphere while polished and streamlined, it's too easy and all hard mode does is make the enemy damage sponges without actually making it harder. The original version's gameplay could actually be challenging at times and required you to properly manage your stamina, distance, skills, and magic if you wanted to get highest rank on a level, and I found it more fun. But the original version also has rather boring level design overall and the menu system is clunky. I think the story and character elevate it in both versions to where they are both pretty good games.

>>715463534>The original version's gameplay could actually be challenging at times and required you to properly manage your stamina, distance, skills, and magic if you wanted to get highest rank on a levelI think that original style worked much better in Princess Crown since there you're only fighting enemies one-on-one instead of large groups which undoubtedly makes it a lot more difficult, on the other hand Leifthraiser went a bit too far in the other direction to where it's more like a musou than anything. More fun? Yes but it's definitely more braindead

I wish stationing people to guard a town was for more than just harvesting supplies. It should be sometimes they would be attacked and you would have organize a defense somehow based off the people you chose to station, which would have helped shown the enemy isn't just waiting around doing nothing while you're seizing all the towns in the region.

Quick Impetus setups are nice unless the enemy has an owl there, fuckers. Still works if you have a double setup since only one will be debuffed and you usually start with an initiative boost.
It's also fun doing elemental roar setups with best elf Rosalinde. Getting 4 faeries and then just exploding the field is very rewarding.
