Halo and CoD were good though, at least during the 6th and 7th console generations.

Pretty sure most people here openly detest Fortnite. But if you mean in general, normies will be normies. The majority of people have been mindless, unquestioning consumers for as long as things have been advertised and sold. Peoples attitudes haven't changed, companies have just gotten greedier.

They were raised on dogshit and became acclimated to it. They won't ever develop taste. Our only hope is that AAA bites the dust, the next generation is raised on good games releasing in the aftermath and becomes even more hardcore in their hatred of garbage.

I agree most MP FPS games are soulless. Most of their soul was in their campaigns but even campaigns became formulaic and generic past PS360 era. They are still fun to play though. Battlefield 6 is practically only game I'm excited about.

As much as I hate gaming journalists now, there was a time they reported and helped push back on this shit. Like Capcom's on-disc DLC fiasco during the 7th gen.
Then they became useless, both to the publishers bribing them for scores and gamers wanting a proper voice. Combined with younger generations raised on smartphone gaming knowing nothing but MTX, watching ads and several layers of bullshit to try and convince them to pay money for convenience, and it's no surprise we're at where we are now.

I gave up with the 7th gen when games were being simplified and dumbed down for the (then) current consoles in an attempt to appeal to a wider audience of people that don't actually like videogames. Going from high mobility shooters with vertical heavy stages to console shooters running at 30fps where you can't even fucking jump was disgusting.

The most similar thing to Halo the PC had prior was Unreal, which Halo blew out of the water in terms of presentation. CoD was an evolution of Medal of Honor which improved on it in basically every way, and finally captured the full war movie experience in a video game, then did it again a dozen times. And both series had great multiplayer modes, which did something the previous kings of multiplayer shooters, Unreal and Quake, hadn't done.

Fair enough but I played Halo CE on PC and that game's community did all the typical PC game shit back then like fucking around with modded maps, weapons, game modes, etc. And then Halo 3 brought these staples to consoles as best it could with Forge mode and it was great fun. Even up to CoD we still had dedicated servers and modded game modes on PC.
Really it was MW2 that fucked everything up when it forced its matchmaking lobbies into the entire multiplayer gaming space.

Does it really matter? Everyone who cares about this topic is never going to reproduce so its not like their opinions matter.
