Started replaying the trilogy after it was on sale for like 3 bucks last week. Forgot how tough some of the Crash 1 levels are(just hit the second bridge level).
Does the remake still have the fucked up Crash hitbox? it's kinda hard to tell sometimes.

Iirc the remake fucked up his jumping. As stiff as the OG PS1 game was, you can still get a feel for the controls afterwards. But with the remake, crash feels like a bag of bricks. If you wanna make a good jump, you make sure to press down that button hard
Also, the remake is still the definitive way to play through Crash 1. Replayable Tawna / N Brio / Cortex stages if you messed up, and I think they got rid of the requirement of 1 run no deaths all boxes thing in Crash 1 as well.

The clear gems don't care if you die or not, the colored gems still have to be no-death. I found that out the hard way already.
But yeah I did notice the jumping feels a bit different compared to how I remember Crash 1 originally playing. Still enjoying it though.

Yes, it's a pill-shaped hitbox which is why it's easy to slip off ledges.
And on that note, an N. Sane Trilogy modder found out that it is in fact easy to change the hitbox to be cube-shaped instead. But then he also found out WHY the devs made it pill-shaped, because when it's set to cube, Crash will get stuck on any sloped terrain all the time, forcing you to jump to get through them.

I think the original collision mesh they're using is a series of cubes for optimization purposes, and then on PS1 it's just programmed so that if you try to walk against one "step" like this you just warp upwards so it works as a slope without that sort of physic jank as "well the pill still slides up these right".
