It didn't. WotLK raiding and PvP were subpar to good wc3 grandstrategies. Still it was amazing and it all burned me for serotonine. Dopamine is still ok in my case.

Playing from the original to Wrath did prepare my brain for the horrors that is remote software work. Guild drama, DKP, 4 hour long ventrilo chats for raids, etc all make posting commits to GitHub, answering slack messages, closing out JIRA tickets, and endless zoom meetings seem fun in comparison. I miss warehouse work so much.

I just reinstalled. The game seems so empty. Whenever I see other players they just fly past me at a breakneck speed. I don't have to be wary of the other faction players when questing because for some reason world PvP is completely removed these days.

you have to enable War Mode for world pvp. idk how active it is though, I haven't played in awhile. but basically they just made it opt-in because people realized that world pvp is a lot cooler on paper than in reality and nobody likes being griefed by some loser for hours. even on classic where pvp servers are still a thing, the playerbase self segregated so servers are essentially mono-faction.

that said, yeah the game isn't very social anymore, and hasn't been in a long time

I don’t even know who the game is for anymore, even the streamers who make money off of playing the game don’t even seem to enjoy it anymore. I don’t ever watch streamers, but I was bored one day and just went through the “””big””” names that play it, and they all look bored and miserable as they play. The game reminds me of the walking dead, where they just are milking absolutely anything they can out of the IP and give zero fucks about any form of quality or respect to “art” at all.
