The message wasnt about killing in an empty broad sense. It was about the cycle of children killing their parents. Its a direct call back to the classic God of War games of Kratos killing Zeus, and all the problems that resulted in and Atreus becoming like his old self.

The entire story is hamfisted, Californian dreck but Baldur wanted to die. Even after he got his wish of mortality he probably would have reignited the battle after being beaten by Kratos and Atreus. Or Odin would ask him to report to him and now Kratos has to deal with Thor and Baldur. And lets be honest despite what Santa Monica says, Dad of War is pitifully weaker than Old Kratos.

kratos on the other hand is unable to solve any problem without killing, which was unintentional by the writers, but they couldn't come with anything but more killing as a solution.

Not to mention that the over-the-shoulder is inherently LESS fun for these types of stories than a greek devil may cry. Of course they kept making these games so many times people started getting fatigue but it was greek-fatigue IMO rather than angry retarded Kratos fatigue. I didn't play Ragnarok but looking at the boss fights with Odin/Thor they kinda lost the edge. Even Baldur in the first one seemed more impressive.

A big theme of GOW is the way in which violence changes you, both the motivation and the aftermath. You're a brainlet if you don't understand the themes especially when the game opens with a deer hunt.
