It had to follow up Part 1, which was bloated with dumb shit time ghosts that ruined the pacing and lessened the original narrative.

It's actually a better game (although it starts to screw up again in Gongaga and to a larger degree at the ending), but the ship has already sailed because of part 1's reception

It's still canon. This takes place after it.

How did the Gi program the Black Materia if they have no access/connection to The Lifestream? Why the fuck did they decide on a meteor? How did they not have time to cast it?
>30 years to rewrite the dumbest macguffin in the game

This project is written by three lunatics with dementia, and designed by people who have never played video games.

Remake's plot ghost ruined any chance of Rebirth playing it 'straight'. Add on how they altered a few other moment like Dyne and it doesn't matter if it 'plays' better.

Real time blocking/guarding. Some attacks are proximity. In Remake locking all of your real actions to your bar made it hella clunky. Rebirth fixes a lot of that, but it's too little too late.

Like all other remakes it is inferior to what it is trying to replicate. It exists for blind nostalgia fags and zoomers mindlessly following what their e-personality told them to like. Aka it is for people who are domesticated cattle.

Do you ever need to block/guard?
I guess I can see the potential, and I haven't played Rebirth, but I remember thinking while playing Remake
>Damn, this is just a shittier version of Tales where every boss is a glorified cutscene where the characters talk over the action more than they do in Borderlands

Makes you outright immune to damage via just guards. Adds more stun gauge as well. You could play the entire game without it on Normal and just spam more healing items to make up for getting hit, but the games Hard mode preventing item use outright along with limited bench use kinda forces you to get good or suffer.

My biggest problem with remake was that even if I wanted to dodge, the effects and animations were so fucking retarded that I could never see the next attack coming. I just didnt have enough of an impression of the combat beyond basic staggering to even say much about it. I just dont think the enemy designs were particularly good, didnt make you do anything particularly thoughtful or considered imo. But ill admit I never even got close to finishing the game because of all the meandering MANDATORY side quests. Its like if every area had the waste of time "get a dress for cloud" quest, but throw in one more.

Im saying this to make it clear im not a biased retard. OG FF7 wastes your time aswell by pretending talking to NPCs with no critical thought required, is gameplay. Remake just adds more shit to waste your time.

Combat is shit. Way too many mini-games. Open world is a repetitive checklist. Still liked for the most part, but it could have been so much more.

Oh I hated FF7 and I'm still baffled that people defend it as if it and the Materia system is some gift from God when it's so more simplistic than its two immediate predecessors, and it's not like those two are rocket science to begin with.

If they were going to remake FF7, either do it 1:1 like the Resident Evil remake on Gamecube did, or reimagine it as a 10-15 hour Action game with good pacing. JRPGs suck dogshit through a straw at the best of times.

I think they knew people were going to skip the dialog in the side quests because they stuck Wedge's fate in one of them.

>Materia is more simplistic than Espers
the materia slots system, especially including things like linking and having to choose between bangles with more slots vs bangles with better effects, means you have to consider opportunity costs.
Unlike the Esper system where you can just learn all the magic and have access to everything at once
So no, it isn't more simplistic.

Stat changes from Espers is also a fucked system due to developer oversight, since you only need the Esper with the stat growth you want equipped in the battle that gives you your level up.

They split the game up into episodes, but each video game takes 5-10 years to make now, so by the time this game is actually done it'll already be outdated, and also I probably won't care or remember it anymore.

Like most TV shows nowadays. Each new season is separated by 2-3 years, and by the time it comes out you forget what the fuck happened and have to watch it all over again.

people wanted a remake but they got an episodic alternate universe/timeline sequel instead
