It's just very weird on what works and what doesn't since the new compression.
Seems installing is fine and older updates are fine too, but newer updates is 50/50 on whether or not they work.
I just updated Streets of Rogue today just fine for instance but in the same day Project Zomboid just failed, so maybe it's tied to the dev whim or how old the game is? Not sure.
Honestly I'm more annoyed by how half-assed the whole thing is, they could have easily set up backward compatibility, but they just didn't, and worst, they didn't even care about what Steam would do if it doesn't work, since on older OS it just get stuck in an extremely bandwidth wasting loop if you don't stop it manually.
It reeks of Valve getting more and more lazy.

Indian OS statistics are worthless, because they're based on hits to websites running statcounter and get their information from the user agent.
Almost all of that traffic is misreported due to user agent spoofing being used by poorly coded phone apps and review farms and the traffic will be disproportionately represented by review farms and unintentionally DDOSing phoneslop, because it is tracking hits and not unique users.

We don't... it's just the only usable thing.

I work on Linux on my other PCs. Man where do I begin

>Mouse lags for no reason
It has acceleration on by default, disable it it's not that, okay maybe it's something else.
Users suggest it's the pooling rate okay

sudo su -
modprobe drm_kms_helper
echo N> /sys/module/drm_kms_helper/parameters/poll
echo 'drm_kms_helper' >> /etc/modules-load.d/local.conf
echo "options drm_kms_helper poll=N" >> /etc/modprobe.d/local.conf

Pooling rate increased mouse does feel better something still feels off.

Maybe it's the drivers try Logitech mouse software for linux

It doesn't exist okay time to try a 3rd part one called solaar

At last I can set my DPI now. Still feel laggy.

At that point I have up I'm not really gaming on that system just playing light games like older RTS games and such it only has a i7-6700k+1070 GTX so not that I can play anything.

And this "little" story that took I don't know 2 hours or so of me searching fixing, testing keeps happening.

I had some weird issue where the CPU usage would spike when the mouse cursor went from Left to Right monitor.
I had some weird issues where programs didn't see the dual monitors as 2 screens but as one big one.
I had issues countless issues with snap programs that are supposed to as easy to install as windows programs. VLC didn't work as a SNAP, Discord had issues as a SNAP. And so on and on...

Linux was such a long way to go it's ridicilous. I do understand why programers go for MacOS to skip all of this BASIC shit if they don't feel like tinkering.

Planned obsolescence is such a pain in the ass. All you need from an operating system is to be able to run your software on it yet updates always have a chance of affecting compatibility with both soft and hard rendering something that was functional into an issue youΒ΄d have to spend time resolving.

Some times softwares patch things up but what about companies that no longer exist and canΒ΄t do that? You had a piece of software that worked and now it doesnΒ΄t anymore. ItΒ΄s a lot of extra work, the disadvantages are plain to see and will affect you immediately but the advantages are not nearly as evident (if there are even advantages to begin with, Microsoft photographing your desktop and having data of everything you wank to is not an advantage)

I played Wow classic in Wine in fucking 2009. I remember the only bug was that clothes and outfits were a little bit too slow to show, and then I screamed "I see everyone naked lol" in general chat, and a Blizzard janny asked me if it was a mod, and I said no I'm literally only seeing people naked because of a bug.

This was 20 years ago.

Gamers can defend Windows 11 by taking proactive steps to enhance security and optimize performance. This includes utilizing built-in security features like Microsoft Defender Antivirus and SmartScreen, while also being mindful of online safety practices like avoiding suspicious links and attachments. Additionally, gamers can optimize their system for gaming by adjusting power settings, disabling unnecessary background processes, and keeping their software and drivers updated.

I'm using Arch for my gaming desktop and notebook I use for work but I might switch to an M4 Pro Macbook Pro because the battery life is insane on these things. Linux and macOS are almost the same thing the main difference is that you can game on Linux because it's x86 and supports discrete graphics while macOS supports more software for content creation. I don't see what usecase Windows has outside of CAD maybe. Because it works. Just works. Plug and play, only games that require extra solutions are the ones requiring DirectX 9 or older usually need only additional libraries) or ones with faulty programming to begin with (like Sunset Overdrive requiring disabling AV software because of some retarded calls game is trying to make, or Saints Row 2 or World in Conflict that are tied to CPU speed for whatever fucking reason). System itself is virtual "bubble-stand-up" toy, unless you deliberately fuck it up it will get up on its own whenever something goes wrong. People complaining about hidden settings, telemetry, updates, etc are usually the ones that should NOT temper with those setting as, for example, they lack intelligence required to read the fucking MS manual (it used to be called MS Technet, no fucking idea how it's called now - but content remains the same) and would do more harm.

PC gaming has only very recently become a non-grognard activity. Dicking around with anything other than steam and going into appdata, using dgvoodoo, or some other shit is just beyond 95% of a user's comprehension. I got sacred 2, a horribly optimized vista game, running on w11 2h24 even with my dual monitor setup. It took me about 30 minutes of tinkering to get everything right. That's too long for virtually any user and they don't have the experience/know the about the resources that I do, so it would likely take longer and be even more frustrating.

I'm not saying that it's a bad thing that some tinkering is required, I've been doing it since the 90's, it's just that you absolutely cannot expect that to be the norm anymore.

>everyone hated vista on release
wrong, the only people who had any right hating vista was people working in enterprise and that's purely because the driver stack had changed causing compatability issues. for most users, the experience was fine and it only got better with each service pack. people who say vista sucked are fucking drones.
>uac was intrusive and most people disabled it
only fucking retards like yourself disable UAC. not knowing if a process wants elevated permissions, and granting them that by default is fucking brain damaged and is why people had to reformat xp every 3-6 months
>8 was widely panned and the start menu was the biggest reason why.
again, by drone retards who are completely incapable of explaining why something is bad. removing the start button was bold, but it was objectively an improvement over wasting space having a start button on your taskbar. windows 8's tile start menu with all the dynamic content was great, and from a user perspective it didn't even matter. 99% of users push their windows key, type their shit, then hit enter. if anything, they didn't go far enough. the start menu should have been your desktop wallpaper
>people only like windows 10 now because you can debloat it and 11 is worse.
11 is objectively better looking, with an objectively better task manager and it's faster than 10 thanks to background task sleeping, and its full of power user developer tools

even with all that, I still use linux.

Windows sucks but it's the platform the games were designed for.
Linux sucks and it's not the platform the games were designed for.
Regardless of which one you choose, there will always be problems with them that you can't fix.
You can make both of them suck substantially less but it depends how much time you're willing to dedicate to it, which is also the metric you should use for picking what you want to use.

It's not actually that clear cut. Windows 98 is not the first Windows and it was hated when it came out but it became much better after patches and is now considered the best of the pre-2000s OS.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMzXjCx81A4

Windows 2000 and XP were both liked. I don't know about 2000 but XP was considered a classic because it lasted a long time and it was probably the first OS for the majority of both gen x and gen y as it was the OS when the majority of normies and kiddies (including myself with these) discovered PC gaming, MMOs (Runescape and/or WoW), and the general Internet for the first time ever.

Windows Vista was considered wasted potential. It was rushed and the way it was rushed made it perma fucked. To the point where Windows 7 had to built up from Windows XP again and just take Vista code that wasn't shit. And then Windows 8 was the post Xbox 360 era. Something happened at this time where Microsoft become truly shit competency wise (they were always shitty business wise). The desktop market peaked so MS was really pushing their Windows phone and Windows 8 was awful because it was actually built for tablets and phones in mind. Windows 8.1 fixed a lot of it but Win7 is still considered the best of classic pre-IoT Windows.

Windows 10 was super shit when it came out but it's considered decent now. Win10 will probably be the last good Windows OS because now MS is taken over by pajeets and DEI girlbosses. Who are now enforcing 'vibe coding' onto their or development team (seriously).

The best Windows OSes overall are Windows 98, XP, 7, and 10 to a lesser extent. I personally don't care about ethics or privacy I just want my shit to work. Windows 7 was my favorite and I am holding onto 10 as long as I can. I just want Windows to be good again even if it meant no privacy and paying a sub. I fucking hate modern computers.
