>>715448554It's not actually that clear cut. Windows 98 is not the first Windows and it was hated when it came out but it became much better after patches and is now considered the best of the pre-2000s OS.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMzXjCx81A4
Windows 2000 and XP were both liked. I don't know about 2000 but XP was considered a classic because it lasted a long time and it was probably the first OS for the majority of both gen x and gen y as it was the OS when the majority of normies and kiddies (including myself with these) discovered PC gaming, MMOs (Runescape and/or WoW), and the general Internet for the first time ever.
Windows Vista was considered wasted potential. It was rushed and the way it was rushed made it perma fucked. To the point where Windows 7 had to built up from Windows XP again and just take Vista code that wasn't shit. And then Windows 8 was the post Xbox 360 era. Something happened at this time where Microsoft become truly shit competency wise (they were always shitty business wise). The desktop market peaked so MS was really pushing their Windows phone and Windows 8 was awful because it was actually built for tablets and phones in mind. Windows 8.1 fixed a lot of it but Win7 is still considered the best of classic pre-IoT Windows.
Windows 10 was super shit when it came out but it's considered decent now. Win10 will probably be the last good Windows OS because now MS is taken over by pajeets and DEI girlbosses. Who are now enforcing 'vibe coding' onto their or development team (seriously).
The best Windows OSes overall are Windows 98, XP, 7, and 10 to a lesser extent. I personally don't care about ethics or privacy I just want my shit to work. Windows 7 was my favorite and I am holding onto 10 as long as I can. I just want Windows to be good again even if it meant no privacy and paying a sub. I fucking hate modern computers.

>>715411231 (OP)>How can PC gamers defend this garbageI dont. I wish there was a good alternative that allowed me to smoothly do everything I do on Windows, but there isn't. Linux is a fucking headache, it's like one big hazing ritual where you have to prove you're a 'real' PC user by suffering through the dumbest contrivances and workarounds just to achieve what Windows 7 achieved in a click.
I don't defend Windows 11, I just use it, customized to my liking with all the group policy settings to make it secure and fast.
Linux users love to compare their fully tweaked out kernel and desktop environment to stock Windows, completely ignorant of the fact that you can customize the fuck out of Windows with a simple GUI that explains everything you are doing.
>>715457856>It's the same shit with a different coat of paint. A coat of paint you can customize if you don't like the look of itThey broke the taskbar and the only way to "customize" is to run ExplorerPatcher so you can bring back the Win 10 taskbar
>>715481618>he bought shit hardware and now that's everyone elses problem but hisyou really are a destitute retard
I had to use windows 11 because the laptop I wanted was so good (a snapdragon yoga with OLED). After massive debloating, installing classic shell, enabling linux wsl, spy beacon. Its actually pretty good. You can nuke all the AI shit with group policy and powershell. Once you have a perfect debloated and optimized install back it up with macrium reflect. Its faster than W10
You guys whine too much. I don't think you faggots even play games. It works on my machine and I probably play more games than any of you.
>>715488198how about you make an OS that doesn't rape people's ram, trashes your battery, uses up your data cap, and doesn't restart itself when it fells like it sanjay?
>>715411231 (OP)Windows is the poor fag option
>>715417805>You'll be defending it in 5 yearsWindows 11 has already been out for 5 years and it's still trash 5 years in. Windows 10 was released in summer of 2015 and was fixed and usable by November 2015
>>715491220>that doesn't rape people's ramif you don't have 64GB of RAM by now you have other areas of your life you need to sort out you poor paki
also, windows creates a cache to speed shit up you tech illiterate retard
>trashes your batteryi get better battery life when running windows than linux thanks to background task sleeping
>uses up your data capi don't have a data cap because i'm not a destitute paki like you
>and doesn't restart itself when it fells like it sanjay?if you're so tech illiterate you can't administrate you machine / network to not do what you want, you're simply admitting to everyone you're a retard
all you're doing is admitting you're poor, retarded and a paki
>>715411231 (OP)Well, anon, if you are interested in obscure programs or in old games or in visual novels or need to use CAD programs for your job or whatever other obscure thing, then Windows is the only reasonable option if you don't want be tinkering with emulation every week for the rest of your life.
>>715492994>Well, anon, if you are interested in obscure programs or in old games or in visual novels or need to use CAD programs for your job or whatever other obscure thing, then Windows is the only reasonable option if you don't want be tinkering with emulation every week for the rest of your life. You do if those programs are 16-bit or even 32bit now.
>>715493042The CAD programs at least have been updated to 64bit, but I suppose boomergaming and boomer VNs will always require emulation now. Tough.
>>715458563>removing the start button was a GOOD thingGarbage opinion
>>715411231 (OP)I'm sure as fuck not defending it. We just recently had to upgrade to 11 on our computers where I work and it's been pissing me off left and right.
>>715411231 (OP)I really have no idea why its so popular when Mint is literally easier in every way
>buy new cheap laptop (4 core N97 processor, 16gb DDR4 ram, SSD)>put windows 11 on it for a laugh to see how bad it is>updates take literal HOURS to install in the background>it doesn't even update the progress bar more than once every like 5-10 minutes>constant HUGE resource usage spikes for seemingly no reason>it finally installs all of its updates, 24H2>Install winaerotweaks and disable all of the retarded gayshit (defender, updates, edge, MS store app updates, telemetry, start menu lag)>idle ram usage drops from 6gb to 3gb(!!!), CPU and disk usage stop randomly spikingI installed Linux Mint on it afterwards in a faction of the time from a USB, it updated in literal minutes with no issues whatsoever. Runs vidya on steam and whatever else I want to install too without needing a program to lobotomize it from microsoft.
W11 is a literal joke OS, I was sitting there honestly stunned at how slow and unperformant it was, I'll at LEAST say that 24H2 felt more responsive than 23H2 even before I used the tweak program but still pathetic.
>>715497780>another poor pakistani third worlder enters the threadWhy can't you poors just switch to trannux or something? You're giving us Windows lovers a bad name.
>>715498191I said I use Linux Mint and installed your joke OS to laugh at it
>>715468956>boo hoo this is too hardI don't give a shit if your specific issue is hard to fix
On Linux you waste your time to make your experience better
On Windows you waste your time to not keep it bad, and it reverts itself if you let it, and that will be the case for every single user
>>715493042>You do if those programs are 16-bit or even 32bit nowI still use plenty of XP-era programs that work just fine
So just how bad are the privacy issues on W11? How much of it is hearsay and how much has actually been confirmed?
>>715431680You expect /v/ermin to know what Open Shell is?
>>715499978>How much of it is hearsayVirtually all of it
>how much has actually been confirmedVirtually none of it
There's definitely telemetry involved, but if you disable everything during the installer and either disable cortana/copilot or use LTSC which has those features ripped out then the only thing that gets sent is basic diagnostic shit for windows update (can be disabled), network connectivity (can be disabled) and defender (can be disabled)
>>715417805I've never defended any version of windows.
I use windows for the same reason I use firefox. It's the worst option available except for literally every other fucking option out there.
Pajeet gayming thread. Tranny gayming thread. Troonix gayming thread.
>>715411231 (OP)>>715411362I just kill the telemetry and bloat and run it like usual
>>715411231 (OP)I don't
I moved to Linux when they announced EOL for Win10
So, what happens if I don't upgrade? What happens if I don't even get the LTSC? What happens if I just stay where I'm at and just let my antivirus handle everything? Will nothing happen?
Like Denuvo rapes games of frames per second, so does the Windows-11-required TPM chip.
Free open-source software points the direction. Linux is the way.
>>715411231 (OP)Not my problem. All my 500+ games work perfect. All my 5000+ emus/roms work perfect too.
>>715505549You're not going to get raped by chinese malware on day 0 of W10 going EOL
You can stay on it as long as you wish, eventually software will stop supporting it, same with newer hardware, etc. But 10 and 11 are very similar so that won't happen anytime soon. 7 was fine for a few years even after 10 launched.
>>715505559Can tuxtards go a minute without spreading schizophrenia-fueled lies?
>>715507806>You're not going to get raped by chinese malware on day 0 of W10 going EOLthe thing about malware is that it can be very hard to tell you've been pwned, for all your know you're already part of some russian botnet.
but yes staying on an unsupported OS increases the risks every day
>>715422715Just in case, buy two drives (ideally visually different from each other) and back up all of your important files to one of them. Put it in a drawer in another room so you never accidentally overwrite it. THEN install linux on the other new drive.
>>715411231 (OP)its totally fine
imagine being so retarded that you think you can migrate to linux when you can't even use windows properly. you're fucking toast buddy.
