many would say 1.8 but id say much earlier
early survival mode was (likely unintentionally) actually about surviving the night but they never went that direction and did a bunch of random shit that made it less about survival and more about doing nothing
but realistically it was always shit at everything it tried and didnt try to do except appeal to literal retards who say dedotated wam

For me personally itโ€™s when I started to actually understand how to play it. The first two weeks I played it, Iโ€™d put on ominous ambient music and treated it like a dangerous exploration/survival horror game and it was amazing. I didnโ€™t realize how easy it was to just jump and place blocks below you so Iโ€™d always be really careful to always leave myself a path out of any deep new holes I found. The illusion began to dissipate around the time I discovered diamonds, then I got bored and dropped it.

The fun I had creating my own playstyle with no clue how to play it optimally was an amazing experience that Iโ€™ll never be able to replicate.

It had multiple updates which made it suck, so it all depends on what you're willing to tolerate.

1. Beta 1.8 (September 14, 2011)
>Introduced hunger

2. v1.3.1 (April 12, 2012)
>Introduced trading with villagers

3. v1.5 (January 3, 2013)
>Added Realms

4. v1.9 (July 29, 2015)
>Combat update

5. v1.13 (October 25, 2017)
>Added Phantoms

Minecraft was desperately trying to be a mix of an action adventure and survival game, but constantly failed at being an actually good game. It was always just strictly nothing more than a sandbox and autism simulator with a barren and shit game attached to it.
Even a shitty semi-live service game like Portal Knights ended up being a better version of what modern Minecraft was trying to be. And Terraria, the game people always compared to Minecraft despite being a completely different genre, was at every point in history 10x better than Minecraft.

when they never made a proper multiplayer and made people use their own servers to play online. Every other game I can just dip into and easily play online. Meanwhile Minecraft and even Minecraft players will have a ton of copium as to why it is this way. I don't want to pay extra just to play online when 99% other games do that free with no hassle.

When people started playing with mod packs and PvP in multiplayer. The game always was a simple sandbox to build castles and survive the night from creepers and zombies. Now after decade and a half of autistic tech mods, mini games, and challenges, gen Z, alpha and beta are constantly yelling for new content when in reality there never was any progression, any bosses, any goals in Minecraft to begin with. It's you, the wood and the cobblestone, and your fantasy. Nothing more.

It's still a pain in the ass and an extra cost. Can you imagine if other games like GTA5 did that? Nigga all you gotta do is stop the game lookup a tutorial on how to setup a server (when it's your first time), look at a site for top servers sign up to a server and set up your server and then you're good to go! It's a pain in the ass and kids mess it up easily theres a reason why there so many scam server sites out there and Minecraft is one of their biggest earners.

>Everyone picks Taiga because of foxes
>Foxes can't be tamed
>This was in 2018
>More votes take place each year, two mobs are shelved
>Updates are smaller and smaller
>People catch on
>The breaking point was the armadillo adding armor for dogs, everyone coping that the armor was going to lead to better dog AI
>...and it doesn't, just makes your dumb mutt take more hits
>They actually intended to do fifty years of updates and a mob vote each time
>Copper Golem pops up last week
Never mind the stuff like the glow squid and Allay or the obvious winner like the Sniffer, the mob vote has been a disaster since 2018.

All they had to do was simply add all of them. That's it. There's no such thing as feature bloat when there are so many areas that are barren and need attention. Beaches are still barren and a palm tree should have been the first thing that was added. Mob C was the most 'Minecrafty' thing that was lost.

Maybe contrarian, but I'd say the nether.

It's not that the nether is bad per say, it just didn't "fit". Once the newness wore off, you realize there's really no reason to go there. It doesn't change the gameplay loop in any meaningful way. It's just more stuff.
Same problem with enchanting and levels- combat was already trivialized by diamond equipment, so 80% of the enchanting system was worthless for like, 3 years.
Villages- same shit. Literally did nothing for years.

The end result has been a sprawl of lame and shallow mechanics. Bloat.
