Instead of space travel, you would have people searching out for other world circles either by ice-surfing across the ice or digging a really huge tunnel through it and sailing there over water. This would be feasible to do with a """medieval""" fantasy setting with some magic to help things along, either to make it go faster or make the trips possible at all. There is definitely room to write settings about the industry of traveling in between world circles, aside from the usual stories about the lands inside those world circles. I worked at a factory that manufactured packaging machines. I was a data-entry employee who worked at a computer, yet I still got free steel-toe boots, anti flame pants, anti shock gloves, and earplugs. Those are all paid for by the people paying my wages.
