You can literally compare the same levels and see that World looks better, it's not just more geometric detail but more descriptive materials. the only advantage MK8 has is that time of day is fixed per level so it will always be lit to fit the level vs Mario Kart World's dynamic time of day/weather leading to some levels looking less optimal in certain lighting conditions.
