It's pretty cool and an ideal portable game although I found it quite difficult going blind in a few parts, mainly when bosses would utterly shitstomp my team and I'd have to completely redraft just for that fight only without really knowing what I would get from fusions.

Good game
Some of the later game dungeon layout is pointlessly tedious, but I think it has my favorite feeling main character for these games that I've played.
I really, really like being a non-magical, kinda ordinary guy, having to get by on the technology and equipment you make, scavenge, and scrounge.
The power fantasy of shit like SMT3, Devil Survivor, or 4A are cool in their own way, but Space Marine was the most fun and engaging, and the dynamic really left me feeling that sense of, fukkin, desperate, scraping for advantages that activates some deep, sleeping part of my brain that doesn't get exercised enough.

Womb of Grief is one of the best dungeons Atlus ever designed and it filters the average retard.
5th Sphere in particular is up there with Etrian Odyssey 5's 6th Stratum as the best dungeon crawling experiences Atlus made.

The gameplay is perfection. The quick combat animation+save points+you go straight to a dungeon. The remake looks ugly. All other games either are either too dated because they came before it or the opposite of dated since they came after it but as a result sacrifice gameplay for roaming 3d model memes(still good) so there's nothing quite it and there won't ever be save for EO but that is different so it doesn't count.

An idea for a new game
> Strange Journey: the other side
> takes place on Earth during the event of SJ
> remember when they mentioned demons started attacking Finland and other countries? Let this game take place there
> make it several chapters, each in a different point of the globe
What pissed me the fuck off about Devil Suvivor 2 was they said the calamity was worldwide but it didn’t fucking matter because everything took place in the good old Japan and no other place matters not even slightly

I played it like 14 years ago so I can't remember. I'm pretty sure I almost beat the game, too. From looking at screenshots of the game I'm pretty sure I inexplicably dropped it at sector Grus. I've still got the game cartridge, so if I really don't have much left to go I might pick it up again.

Pure kino until you fight Jack, game turns to shit afterwards. Level design becomes full of trial and error teleporter/conveyer belt/hole in the ground puzzles, and the final boss is pure RNG. Redux fixes some problems (like the endings), but Womb of Grief is all that's wrong with base SJ dialed up to 11. They also didn't fix physical in Redux despite having the tools to do so, as you do get an augment that allows crits to trigger all out attacks, but you get it so late that it doesn't matter anymore. Overall I like Redux more but I still don't think it's very good. Beyond kino soundtrack though.

Nah second H is where the puzzles actually start being trial and error. Before that you can always predict where a hole is going to lead you to.

Great game but I have to say the whole dungeon crawling aspect of the game isn't very well done. Outside of bosses, you really have to mess up if you manage to get a game over. A dungeon crawler game is supposed to be hostile. Hell, even some non-dungeon crawler SMT games have more hostile dungeons. That being said, I can understand why they went with the blobber perspective considering it is a game for a handheld device. I can only assume it is much cheaper to develop than your typical isometric JRPG which SMT series isn't really known for anyway. Also I find it incredibly based that they made neutral ending hardest to get since you don't receive an overpowered demon through a sidequest like good and evil path do. Choose a side, you fence sitter pussies.

>SJ in general
Probably the overall best SMT narratively that has both a unique tone but conveys the themes of the series really clearly. Some gameplay elements like alignment team building and some of the dungeon crawling is very neat. The combat feels worse then press turn though and while the MC being just a dude is neat, it is confusing why the game even bothers offering 'builds' when you functionally are just the teams bitchboy.

>Redux
Narratively I hate it. It spitefully shits on the original endings by making Neutral the worst and Law and Chaos a lot better. I like the idea of an SMT game where neutral is not just an instant good ending but SJ was not the one to do that to.

Depends if you are the kind of person who can stomach playing a 50-80 hour JRPG through twice in a row.

Vengeance is better then Creation but it benefits a lot from having played Creation first. If you can handle it, then play Creation then Vengeance but if you can only do it once then just Vengeance. The differences aren't that big until you get about 1/3 in. The game is like The Witcher 2 where the middle changes pretty dramatically but the beginning and end gameplay sections aren't too different.

If you mean alignment then in Creation is basically doesn't matter as you can pick any ending and in Vengeance you might as well go Law as you have to go out of your way to be a cunt to get Chaos.

I don't think I could personally play through the entire game twice in a row without getting burnt out. If you think that's you, just play Vengeance. I played the original when it came out, so I'm glad I benefited from that experience for it, but I don't think it's worth it for most people.

Yeah the new game should take place in Mars.
Make the game more futuristic too.
Demons were somehow summoned in Mars and now every facility has a makeshift dungeon that you explore.
