This was a study made on college grads (predominantly whites), they were tasked with reading and translating the opening paragraphs of Charles Dickens’ Bleak House, only 5% of the students completed the task and everyone had access to dictionaries and google.

The text describes an environment filled with wet muck, like a swamp.
It then continues to describe how Holborn HIll (which I am assuming is a place; a town) is largely defenseless as a Megalosaurus could quickly wade through the mud to enter the place.
>my interpretation was the same as that girls
Talk about a self-own lmao

Overwording with prose is a common way for the academics to seem more intelligent than they are, which makes peer reviewing, at times, infuriating.

It was a test to test whether students were actually able to read the assigned texts in the courses, turns out they were either guessing the meaning of whatever they were reading, skipped sections they didn't understand or generally were unable to understand that it was a long way of saying that London is muddy shithole.
If someone asked you to do this on the spot even proficient english native readers might struggle, however those are college majors that were given all the necessary tools to complete the task.
There's also the fact that to understand the text you need to have some general and specific knowledge about the period of time when the text was written, if people lack that they couldn't possibly understand the biblical references and so on.

Everything in there is clear as day, the only issue is quite literally "what did he mean by this?"
To which, I could only guess, is his way of calling London archaic.

It just means the streets were very muddy.
The author brings up a comparison to the Earth from right after God parted the waters to reveal land. He says that a dinosaur would not be out of place there precisely because of this antediluvian landscape.

No, they are telling kids that dinosaurs had feathers which is obviously a false representation

I'm Euro ESL and I'd say that this text just describes a very muddy environment. Not to boast but I've always been one of the best, if not the best, in my English class no matter the school and the "and it would not be wonderful..." makes me feel... weird. I understand that it's a poetic, not every-day way to express something and I've never been taught such stuff.
But to think that native English speakers could struggle with their own native language like that just goes to show how the jews won in the West. Just consoom the tiktok, just look up a guide on how to play the game, just follow the meta builds, just play the current fotm until a new one comes out. That's why the gaming industry sucks. Normalfags see video games like interactive movies
