Just finished it. Obviously took a lot of inspiration from NieR, Final Fantasy X and Dragon Quest XI. Damn good stuff. I didn't buy it just played on gamepass but man what a ride. First game I've completed start to finish all year. Verso ending but watched Maelle ending. 8.5/10 kind of fell off narrative wise but the gameplay, exploration and boss fights were immensely entertaining

My only nitpick with the game is that they could've fleshed out the 3rd act quite a bit more. They didn't even necessarily need to add anything storywise (which would likely just bloat it and make it worse), they could've just made the whole "collect dead expeditioners chroma" thing the act 3 framework instead of it all happening in a cutscene and that larger objective would make you have to visit all sorts of places that are now optional in act 3 and fight an assortment of bosses etc... Again, it's a small gripe because I understand that the story kind of reached its' conclusion and I guess it's fine letting players just finish it right away if they want to but idk, I would've prefer it be a bit more expanded and this way you can tune the final act boss to be much tougher.

i honestly got bored of battles and ended up sprinting past every enemy in that huge last area where you return to places, because i just wanted to see how the story played out. so i can't really disagree with gameplay criticisms. it's entertaining, for sure. played on expert.

Act 3 has a bunch of fully fleshed out and important to the main story content, which is left as optional. There could have been like 4-5 quests instead of rushing to the final boss.

I used him all through Act 2 (after you get him anyway) and most of act 3. He was actually in my main team vs Simon Cultist Blood/Cultist Slashes is really strong the moment you unlock him. Then he became an AP battery for my free aim Verso in late act 2/early act 3. Bruler Barrier is also extremely useful for when you're learning boss movesets. Being able to grant AP and Shields at the same time is a lifesaver. Then once you get Dualist Storm he becomes a potent damage dealer again. Not on the level of what Verso and Maelle can accomplish in the end game. I don't think any party member is truly useless until the end end game. Playing it a few times, it feels like every party member has a point where they can spike in power and become the team carry.

I really liked how they wrote the gommage into the character's personalities and outlook on the world. Things like them having debates on whether having kids is a good idea or not. The pain that would come from knowing you'd die a certain day but suddenly falling and dying early. A nice line on this subject is Sciel's "guess this is what its like to be immortal" for them living to 70-90 is near immortality because of how they grew up. The whole thing of turning it into a semi celebration with sending out an expedition the next morning. The characters were written well because they felt born in the world they were given, not some 2025 zoomer running around repeating "mr stark" over and over.

We then see the memory of Aline teaching Verso piano, but then it is mentioned that as he got older his obligations as the heir to a major Painter family forced him to give it up for painting.

In particular was the situation with the Cumans at the Romani camp.
It was stupid as fuck that the game basically forces you to forgive them and offers no alternative besides beating them in a fight and killing them.
When I got the moonshine for them, I immediately poisoned it - only for Henry to down the whole thing in the next scene like a fucking retard.
Very weak with player choice.
How the whole thing goes down with the betrayal after the wedding was also very contrived.
I just didn't think the writing in KCD1 was very good, either.

Lune is honestly still real fucking busted in Act3 since Act3 is where everyone unlocks their Gradient Attacks.
Lune has that Braselim weapon that gives you +5% Gradient on any of Lune's attacks. But the most beautiful thing is that Storm Caller, is -Lune- attacking alongside every attack of the other two characters even when it's not Lune's turn. And thus you get +5% gradient on ANY of your party member's attacks.
And this becomes even crazier when you get far enough into the game to acquire the Charging Luminas such as Charging Critical and Charging Burn that gives you +20% gradient the first time you strike a Critical Hit or inflict Burn once each turn. But if both Lune and another party member have these luminas equipped. Then -both- of them can get +20% each turn for their first Critical and first Burn each turn. Doubling the amount of Gradient you get from them, in addition to the +5% from each individual hit.

You'll have 3 Gradient bars. Every single turn. Or twice a turn if you account double-turns.
It's pretty good. The tier3 Gradient attacks are super fucking powerful. It's not just Maelle's Gommage that's broken if Gommage is the one that breaks the game. Lune's Skybreak is like the most powerful attack after Gommage (ignoring how Sciel's Gradient Attack scales infinitely). Monoco's instantly inflicts break and Verso becomes immortal.
And honestly. Storm Caller still does pretty good damage even at the end game if you do lots of Free Shots or multihit attacks. And Terraquake shouldn't be overlooked either, because outside of Monoco's instant-break Gradient, Terraquake is your biggest boost to break damage.

Granted that you don't really need to abuse Lune to this degree. Because at this point you're so powerful that not even Simon can resist you. But Lune never really falls off. She just loses the glamour of doing dozens of damage-cap multihits. But she stays golden the whole game through still.

So what´s a good final boss fight level? I´m almost there, wanted to do the companion quests first but man, these dungeons are kind of kicking my ass a bit.

Then again i´ve barely allocated any lvl up points and all my weapons are level 15 at best. Beating a couple of regular hand monsters at the dark shores took me like half an hour and they almost wiped me out a few times.

I took out Simon on 50 agility across the board. Pictos took care of the rest. I prioritised health and defence, and only played with one real damage dealer in the party.

Game allows for different playstyles, and that's one of its biggest strengths. I'm not good at memorising attacks, so I went for more of a defensive approach, allowed enemies to hit me, but I always had quality health and shield game, so I could take it, and at the same time memorise attacks. Battles were longer, but I didn't have a lot of problems, until Simon and Clea curveballs.

I double-checked. I was actually at 70-80 speed. Monoco and Lune at 99 speed. I had them for support and healing only. Speed is very important against him, but too much of it isn't giving many benefits either. He should not get more than two attacks in a row, so he can't erase one of you party members. Usually if he kills someone, and one of party members is at 100% health, he will first drop that member to 1hp, and only then if he's got another turn, he will erase dead member. That allowed me to play long battles against him and learn his patterns, which were extremely hard for me. My whole build, until the end was surviving as long as possible to learn him. Once I learned his 2nd stage, it became easier.

Greater slow on him, haste, buffs that decrease his and increase party damage were vital for me.

I don't know, I think that ending was established very early in development. It's clair/obscur after all. Erase or leave. Verso vs Maelle. You were just lured from the main point by many ways that they used to hide the point, to make it more of a surprise when it came. It's not a perfect story, Writers and fire are just used as an empty MacGuffin tool to further it, but I did like the endings. Both of them make sense. In one Maelles becomes a Godlike entity, in the other, family story is resolved. What I missed in Versos ending is a proper apocalypse scene. Verso gets what he wished, but it's not showing that everything gets destroyed along with him. From Gestrals to all the party members.
