Is half life worth playing? I was thinking of playing it but it looks too aged

It's one of the most accessible boomer shooters to play. If you played Bioshock or Titanfall you'll have no issues.

No, you'll be back in hours to cry about it, like the typical zoomed you are.

I never played Half Life until a couple years ago
I think it's very much playable and is a nice bridge between old shooters (fast movement, explorable levels with goodies hidden here and there, gameplay focus) with more modern trends that were starting to incubate (reloading guns, throwing grenades, trying to tell a story and have some cinematic elements)
It has a lot of charm too, I couldn't resist laughing when I heard scientists go "STAHP NOOO HUEGH" while getting gunned down then felt bad, literally laughing at a tragedy

Yes, it is one of the defining shooters of all time.
The visuals aren't an issue in my opinion, but if it's a deal-breaker for you, play the Black Mesa remake.

visuals are dated but the game is still great.
there is also a remaster called Black Mesa with updated graphics.

I don't think he should play black mesa first
Various aspects of black mesa, good and bad, only come into view when you actually have experience with half life

It's pretty solid if you want to play half life 2 then play black mesa instead
