Turtle is great but it has such an old client it feels like shit compared to Epoch.

Probably epoch. I expect I'll end up liking turtle more, but epoch is the more blizzlike of the two so I feel better recommending that for a first timer.

Turtle's great but I wouldn't really recommend a custom content server to a new player.

Unfortunately there's no good true vanilla private servers right now and WoW classic is really not in a good place unless you're into Hardcore (permadeath) mode.

The only decent option I can recommend you is Warmane (it's blizz-like WoTLK with like 5000+ thousand players on at all times at day. Maybe if you get used to that you can go back and play Epoch or Turtle.

Try both, Turtle is modified but improved vanilla WoW, don't let retards tell you otherwise
Vanilla WoW was an unbalanced mess, it had charm but in the current age of information it does not hold up against the tide of minmaxxing subhumans
TurtleWoW does a good job at rebalancing the game so that it's not as ridiculously unbalanced as vanilla and that's a sorely needed change, it also fixes a lot of experience droughts that vanilla had by adding custom zones and additional quests

GMs aren't going to be in your dungeon group looking like anime girls. It's the same thing as in pre-2010s when yo asked an official GM to do something funny at the end of your ticket. There hasn't been a screencap or evidence of GMs using that morph in at least 5 years.

Turtle leveling experience is great but it is an old server so everybody is fully geared and basically done with the game. I leveled a druid to 60 only to find tier3 players joining my stratholme groups and gold is to get through the AH. I stopped playing a couple days after reaching max level.

Epoch is fresh but we don't know how broken/laggy its going to be. The balance changes look good and they promised new itemization.
If epoch works is going to be a much better experience.

I was in the public stress test the other day, had like 2k people in valley of trials and that crashed it after a few mins. Upon restart, they opened all races to character creation and they had 400-800 in each ones and it was fine. It's not often you'll get that many people in one zone so I'm pretty hopeful everything is smooth
Mobs and quest items have hyperspawns when there's that many people too so there weren't any bottlenecks
