A "half" A press is still an A press

Half press refers to the action of holding A down and not releasing. An A Hold might be a better term. It really is more of a 2/3 action, too.
>Press
>Hold <-- we are here
>Release

But what's the context? Doesn't make sense for digital signals either since it's either on or off while analog signals can actually pick up the "half pressed" aspect.

The argument was that a "press" constituted the entire action of engaging the analog signal as well as disengaging it to return to a neutral state, and that it only qualified as "half" because it was engaged but not disengaged.
This is of course silly. Any input is an input.
Besides, he was proven right in the end, there's a genuine no A press run now.

The context is that certain actions occur while holding the button which may enable you to get a star, such as spinning slower in the air allowing you to get more distance or swimming fast. In the case of a half a press, you would round the number up if you were doing a single star a press challenge, but in the context of a 120 star run, you could leech that a press off of a previous one because the action required doesn't require a press but only a hold. Therefore you would round down. Any particular star that can be gotten in "0.5" a presses means that in isolation it would be "1" while in a full run it would be "0"
It's not a difficult concept

Well you see, the TJ part of TJ "Henry" Yoshi is actually an acronym for "The Joker"

The reasoning for the vernacular is explained in the fucking video. If you really want to nitpick, it's a contextual A press.

If it triggers the button switch, it's technically a full press even if you just pressed it halfway since it triggered the associated action.

It's an A press in a single level run, since you have to press it to hold it. But it's not an A press in a whole game run cause you can just press A for one of the other required A presses and just keep holding it till it's needed for the one star. It counts half the time so it'a a half A press.
Also he found a way to beat Watch for Rolling Rocks with actually no A presses later on anyhow.
