I'm not sure how it happened, but my last rubber mouse grew some mold(?) on it and I have no idea how to clean it since it just kept coming back even when I cleaned it with alcohol wipes.
I eventually replaced it and stored it inside a drawer after cleaning it for the last time. Years later when I was cleaning up I found that the growth has spread over the whole surface of the mouse, it was really gross so I threw it out, kind of wish I took a picture of it to show to you guys.
