why is Nintendo too retarded to do this and have it standardized

I have a feeling they will release and unnecessary peripheral that will syphon as much money as possible, or perhaps they know that and they would lock DS like games behind an unnecessary peripheral

no, I know is a novelty but the fact that people suggested a second screen to replicate DS games is telling

You REALLY don't need the second screen to be that big on the DS. 99.9% of games it's blank or you don't use it most of the time. Just have a small screen to the side that you can pull up whenever you do need it. Like the Castlevania DS collection did.

No it's not. They'd have to build the console with a separate set of top and bottom attachment points in order to facilitate this without selling a separate peripheral to act as the attachment points. This would also cover up several buttons and ports on the console, so it's not an easy thing to design around in any case. It's a massive waste of resources to design a hardware feature that will only be used in one (1) piece of software. There's also no reason a DS emulator on the Switch couldn't just fit both screens into the normal horizontal orientation.
