The real question is why?

God this game is awful. I thank God every day I stopped playing so long ago. If you play a competitive deck it's a coin flip simulator, if you play anything rogue or lower you're screwed most of the time unless you face someone else playing for fun (doesn't happen, not even in the casual mode) I mean, there's no shot you guys actually still enjoy it right? You have like 3 archetypes you can realistically play, where you will actually be able to play without drowning in a sea of negates, out of the thousands of decks they've come up with over the years. I personally just can't see the fun in it. Mind you, I played meta at one point, but then it just became brain dead easy to win, but playing rogue or bad decks is like pulling teeth, there's no happy medium.

It's a bad OTK deck. You're supposed to stack the deck using the field spell so you don't whiff the excavations and can draw what you need with the Xyz' draw effects, then summon a couple Dreadnaught Ikuras, attack directly with Uni, which triggers the Ikuras to both pop a card allowing them to attack directly twice each. The engine is just not good enough to pull this off without a lot of luck vs an incompetent opponent. You can also go for direct damage OTKs with Burner Visor on Ikura+Dugares.

Magic the Gathering is generally pretty good about this, or at least it was until a few years ago. Their most current format, Standard, is generally also the lowest power level, while formats that include older cards are much, much higher power level. This is generally because early magic cards were insanely imbalanced. Think effects like "Draw 3 cards" or "Take an extra turn" or "Cheat the resource system" with pitifully low or even no costs. But Vintage/Legacy formats are high power because they also contain most every card in the game, so just over time you build up a bunch of really powerful tools/synergies/combos. Rotation in the Standard environment means you don't have to rely on power creep to sell new sets like with Yugioh. Though like I said, even MtG hasn't been immune to power creep (Or complexity creep, which is a similar phenomenon)

That said, most card games do have power creep regardless. It makes sense if you think about the incentives behind using new cards. Like if Konami released a bunch of new cards that were strictly worse than currently existing cards, why play them? Why play "Super poly, but you can respond to it" when the original is so much better? Or even if the cards are roughly the same, you'd probably save your money unless you could take advantage of some unique interaction or edge case. But stronger cards will always be attractive. Rotation takes some of the pressure off but ultimately you still have to make novel game pieces. This is where complexity creep comes in, eventually you just exhaust all of the design space in your game below a certain power/complexity level. It's more a problem with continuous development as a business model.

It's got a half baked feeling to it because of the circumstances it was made in. It might offend someone who expects Vrains to reflect anything real about computers/code, it was obvious to me that Yoshida really doesn't care about those subjects and just went along with it. It's structured like a story of an old magical wizard who creates greek god-like homunculi who create a parallel magic world. I did enjoy some characters' duels from it (Revolver, Lightning, Ai) but it doesn't hit the same previous highs either. Arc-v was a major trainwreck but it was a fairly high energy trainwreck, Vrains was melancholy, boring, and scraping by. And also something people don't really think to mention, but Yoshida getting old and the Vrains director (the 2nd one who was there most of the show) being relatively inexperienced and new might've been a real factor too.
Even the 2nd season where hypothetically things could've gotten better for it after its production settled into a predictable rhythm, it felt like Soulburner got changed from "villain who slowly learns more and then changes" to just a straightforward no secrets good guy for whatever reason. Which exaggerated how godawful Bohman is as an antagonist because then it's like he had to be the placeholder for the bigger antagonist duels in the first half of season 2. Like goddamn he had to be one of the worst to sit through

I am not interested in the speed of the game and how fast the field floods up. There are so many searchable cards, and most things are built into archetypes. I miss when the monsters were only vaguely related. Is there anyway to play older or restrictive formats? I've done legacy of the duelist to death. I just love the slower pace and tactical duels and not so much the hand gambling. Go ahead and tell me I am wrong, and think about how you get a rush if adrenaline when you win and a crash out when you get fucked. It's gay gambling.
