The prologue is a scene that happened before they were brainwashed into playing again. None of it changes anything about the Real Fiction of the game, with the sole exception of the brainwashing possibly applying to Tsumugi too.

Think of the TDR dome in the middle of the peaceful city.
Think of Makoto, someone not even in the dome and our glimpse to the world outside of it.

Did you listen to her at all? Because they're Real Fiction. Saying "You're just fiction!" is a shorter version of "Everything about you as a person was written by writers and implanted into your brain and the you that was there before is permanently gone so everything you know and are is a lie." They're real flesh and blood, but all their memories and personalities given to them by TDR overwrote their default.. All that knowledge was given to them by a device similar to a Flashback Light, which we know exists because we've seen that too.

Considering the state of the world being a struggle to survive in UDG, Junko wasn't that far off even if she was the maker of the problems. The point of DR1's ending is to have hope and fight for a better future.

I actually agree with this aspect, I don't contest it but there are some bits and pieces that make the assertion that Hope's Peak is fiction shaky.

While I can't find the exact conversation, I do think it was clear they were Danganronpa superfans and it's very possible that's why they would treat Ultimate abilities like real things. The elephant in the room is Tsumugi's cosplay switching on the fly which brainwashed ability or not felt like a quirk more than anything to let them use the words of the DR1 and DR2 cast against the player.

I actually hate everything about the Exisals, especially considering how they contribute to making Chapter 5 the most contrived pile of shit I've ever read in a blatant attempt in recreating Komaeda's Wild Ride yet falls completely flat since the conclusion is obvious from the onset. You could assume that civilians don't normally see them or something or they're made for the season or somethingsomething brainwashing but I'd be more willing to concede this point. Again I just really don't like them in general.

I do consider Hope's Peak fictional and Tsumugi to generally be truthful though, but the beauty of V3 is in how it refuses to answer anything and answers at all would defeat the point of the story, that lies or truth, fact or fiction, how it makes you feel is real.

While they might be superfans I find it a bit hard to believe because in the convo I'm thinking of they're talking pretty seriously about the situation they're in and peppering in what is basically dorky weebtalk about fictional Ultimates wouldn't quite make any sense there.

Also holy shit I agree with you on the second point. The story taking a big hit in V3 is one of its big flaws and chapter 5 illustrates that point perfectly.

While I don't agree on either point, I do admit that I have something of a bias since the idea of V3 inadvertently hinting at underground snuff rings that are trying to ride the coattails of THH being streamed to the world and providing a product/service to the remaining despair obsessed luantics out there is really cool as a concept to me. There's a non-zero amount of interpreting the open question of the ending to facilitate this headcanon I have but I believe even without that there's more than enough room for doubt as to whether Hope's Peak is or isn't fictional.

You too, even if we don't agree on everything, I still think V3 accomplished its main goal above all else, and even if it lead to these endless conversations and speculations that will never have a real answer, I love that the game allows us to do that. It feels like MGS2 if Konami actually accepted it as the last one like SpikeChun seems to be doing with V3.
