And alot of the settings are unfortunately 0% vs 100% too, with no fine tuning, like keeping the beast setting on i.e. just to punish raiders by tossing them in the horny warg prison, but then you have to deal with all the unintented retardation that occurs from simply having it enabled, like when you kill or down a rat outside your base and suddenly every single pawn in the merchant caravan starts taking turns using it as a fleshlight until they leave. Maybe if they had a lite version of RJW it wouldn't be so bad, but there are so many other games out there way better suited for coomtent, it's just not worth the trouble. Not to mention the basegame already lets you do enough fucked up things to begin with.
I havenโt played this game in a few years. Every time I do I get way too into it and my productivity at home plummets. Plus I have so many mods loaded in I canโt properly play now.

I like the idea of time-based raids and I know they had added that to the actual game, but the implementation kind of sucked because again, there's no attempt to balance it and they just said "well here it is, spend 10 hours tweaking it until it's fun". I feel like time-based raids + something like compressed raids would be the best although I've never actually used compressed raids yet.

For example only use weapons that fire 5.56 and keep a bill for having 2,000 rounds sitting on a shelf and anytime it dips below someone will make more and anytime a pawn fires ammo they will go re-arm to whatever their loadout says they should carry.
I was afraid of ammo at one point so I did the ammo off setting, but then I realized you lose access to all the different ammo types and you certainly need advanced ammo for the late game. 5.56 fmj is nothing compared to 5.56 HE rounds, Armor Piercing Incendiary rounds or Sabot rounds

This quest always spawns on the opposite end of your starting location (relative to world size), so the intention is that if you want to take advantage of it you'd caravan your way to it, like as if you're playing Rimworld Trail, with all the RNG involved

Before I start new base, did they change anything about cooking? I remember long time ago in ~1.2 you need to have a cooks enslaved 24/7. And it was so insane you were forced to minmax food drop/positioning so it was more useful to use paste for little mood penalty instead of cookslaves.

Though some people might be put off by the whole menstruation thing causing blood filth on the floor and annoying the pawn with 'liquids dripping' (applies if it's something other than menstrual blood dripping) down their legs if you don't have tampons or sanitary pads around in the colony, which is a bit more micromanagement. At least making tampons and sanitary pads give a bit of crafting exp via tailoring, though dismantling dirty tampons or wet sanitary pads don't. This is also a problem if you play with HAR races with restricted apparel, because they might not be allowed to wear tampons or sanitary pads so will keep dirtying your colony and getting annoyed from discharging menstrual blood and other fluids.

For vanilla, in large colonies you still need to decide on whether you want pawns dedicated to cooking vast amounts of fine/lavish food for mood purposes, or simplify it all with nutrient paste. This is where having cooking pawns doing the 'night shift' can become important, like as if you have chefs prepping for the breakfast rush.
It's because of that food and cooking mods are popular. If you love nutrient paste there are various mods (not just Oskar's) that either make nutrient paste 'taste better' or do other things as well. If you want to stick to cooking pawns, you have either more linking furniture mods for faster cooking, more 'efficient' cooking (gives more nutrition, food that costs less nutrition to make or bigger mass cooking (aka more than just 4x batches)) or gives additional bonuses, or else you use stuff like Deep Storage fridges (and other similar mods) to have a freezer right next to your kitchen so that they minimise traveling time required to cook stuff. Having something like Needs Overflow mod also helps in that pawns can eat beyond '100%' food bar, so that no nutrition is wasted from overeating.

I have 140 hours in this game and didn't even see the vanilla "escape the planet" ending once. I usually just play tribal start until I get bored and uninstall.
Then after a few months I get into the mood, reinstall, start tribal again and the cycle continues.

Big raids often come in multiple groups, turrets do a bit of damage and distract enemies, drugs and serums can play a significant role, animals and mechanoids are quite effective, just running away is also an option in extreme cases and so on
