How are you preparing for the end of Windows 10? Is IoT LTSC going to work for gaming long term?

I just bought my first gaming laptop last week and it has 11 on it. I own three other laptops; one on 10, one on 7, and a Mac. Really no need for me to worry about it now.

I spend all day working on a PC so, until recently, I only every really wanted to game on consoles unless it was the type of game (Heroes 2/3, Roller Coaster Tycoon, etc) that was just awful on console.

I remember the annoying part of having LTSC 2016 was that getting games made after that date to boot required updates, so I was constantly having to update it

That's the main issue for me, I only updated to 10 because games started requiring it. I don't care much for updates or support.

I use all TPM1.0 equipment, including the laptops I gave my boomer parents so I'll never have to bother with Windows 11. I'll use Windows 10 on last gen hardware forever if I need to.
Dual channel ram and an SSD is still faster than human perception of a computer working even without the latest hardwareslop.

It'll work at least until Win12 is out, so by then we'll know either windows is following the good/bad cycle and we can upgrade to 12 or if windows is just perma shit and we'll have to switch to linux.

Nearly all windows versions were hated at first, got better after 2938479 patches, and then everyone loved them cause the next version came out buggy.
95 was always hated
98 was so much fucked that they had to make 98 Second Edition
XP was a goddamn joke at first, ugly and ate a ton of resources compared to 2k, and it had so horrible security that it got three worldwide viruses within three days. It took five years, three service packs, and hardware specs becoming 10x better for XP to not suck.
Vista came out broken but paved the road for Win7, if it didn't introduce the UAC concept that every application had to adhere to in 3 years, then Win7 would've been as much hated as Vista (Win7 didn't have less annoying UAC prompts, it's just that in that time everyone updated their programs to not bring it up as often).
8 sucked, 8.1 still sucked.
10 sucked but after 10 years of patches it's okay.

11 is a piece of shit and I hope that whatever they use will go back to the 10 codebase. For at least the UI. The win11 UI is a bad joke.

Win10 will still run and the lack of patches just means Windows Update won't bother me until Win12 or 13 comes out.

Oh, hi. Microsoft here. We have chosen to stop supporting the operating system installed on the overwhelming majority of computers in the world at this time. It would be trivial for us to keep supporting Windows 10 but we don't want to, because reasons.

Now, we just scanned the hardware in your pc and we regret to inform you that you need a new pc. That's right. You see, your pc is missing a certain crypto-processer TPM chip that we can use to track you and everything you do on your pc. Yes, the chip gives your pc a unique fingerprint that we will verify and log anytime we want, including your browsing habits, your online transactions, your uploads and downloads, the emails you send, the devices attached to your pc including when and how you use them, your hard drive activity such as moving or deleting files, and much, much more. We will do this for you, you know, for your security.

Now go out and buy a new pc so that we can fingerprint you and log everything you do with that pc, or else you will be stuck with that old Windows 10, and when we say old we mean the version right before the new Windows 11. It's not really old but don't you worry about that. And pay no attention to that Linux guy, mmmkay?

Yes, if you're not a retard.

If it's on Windows 10, you can literally check to see if it's valid for 11 if you care that much. There are tools MS have made to do that.

If it says it's the TPM, you can check UEFI/BIOS to see if TPM is off, tun that on and Windows 11's checks will let you go to 11.

Or install Arch and get off the MS plantation.

But since you're so retarded you can't do all this shit yourself without me spoonfeeding you, don't bother with Linux.

Kill yourself, BTW.

They could already do that since NT in 1993 or so. Windows NT (which Windows has been based on since XP for consumers) is able to replace the kernel with whatever MS wants. One of which was Linux at the time, but it wasn't "mature enough" IIRC to where they went with their own NT kernel.

My experience is everything has been virtually perfect, with alternate runners like GE or catchyos variants filling in any of the gaps steam official 9.0.4 or 10 beta still don't cover.
Is it an extra step?
Yes.
Enjoy having all of your steps reset shutting down telemetry on Win 11 after every sys update.
Not updating? Why the fuck even use Win11? Just stay on 10.

I've bounced off linux three or four times in the past, but since jumping ship earlier this year in feb I've gotten to the point I have forgotten I am even using Linux.
