You're barely into the start of the game and it backports many mechanics from future games into BN1. You lose maybe like 20 minutes doing so and gain an extra boss fight, multiple new chips, playable Geo (Who breaks the game so don't use him), an entire extra story section for the crossover, and a bunch of quality of life changes.

>>715502586
Nope. The map helps but the numerous amounts of quality of life improvements OSS brings to the table makes the GBA version a waste of your time. There is no value in it at this point outside of nostalgia. OSS exists.

I like to see how game series progress and improve with each successive game. I'm reminded of when /v/ recommended that I start the Yakuza series with Yakuza 0, which was a bad recommendation. I don't think it's worth it to waste the near 2 hours I've already put into this version, just for some minor extras. Plus, and this is just subjective, but the character portraits look more soulful in this version to me.

The thing is this isn't like playing 0 because every mechanic from OSS is found in BN2 onward anyway, it just put it in line with BN2 onward. BN1 has a bunch of issues with alphabet soups, not being able to tell how much damage you did in time stop, not having wildcard chips which further adds to the alphabet soup problem, fairly high encounter rates, the inability to run without a chip dedicated solely to running, the high busting requirements just to get chips, and more. It even buffs the major postgame boss.

You're genuinely doing a disservice to yourself by playing GBA over OSS.

Go back in time to 2003 and play them on a GBA while watching the series on KidsWB. Alternatively you can just emulate. I was gonna say the Legacy Collection since it's at least possible to play and trade with other people, even if not likely, but everyone hates the filters so there's that

yeah you're perfectly fine just playing the gba version of 1. it might be a bit simple if you're used to the other games, but if it's your first game and you could get down with yakuza 1 (assuming you played that), bn1 really isn't that rough
>>715503303

the legacy collection's perfectly fine if you don't want to pirate though; it cleanly integrates the patch card content from 4-6 and even had the postgame content that was gutted from the original english release of 6

OSS for BN1. It's a straight upgrade in every single way to BN1.

BN2 through 5 have relocalization patches to put them more in line with the JP versions. The downside is you can't take advantage of anything the Wii U VC roms or LC give you.
>If you play with the Wii U VC roms you can instantly unlock the multiplayer-exclusive, e-Reader-exclusive, or Chip Gate-exclusive content but they're using the original translation.
>You can also play the Legacy Collection as that implements the same things the Wii U VC roms do but in a more natural way, but it forces you into the way they scaled it and with worse text unless you mod it on PC. These also only use the original translation and as far as I've seen the rerelocalization hasn't been ported to it yet.
5 DS is the best version of 5 due to the added content, bug fixes, and gameplay changes added into it.

BN6's best version is the translation patch of it due to just how much content was removed in the western versions.
>Legacy Collection is your second best option due to it bringing it all back.

Battle Chip Challenge is best played on GBA. You can use the Chip Control Mod if you want but it's intended to be played with randomness. Depends if you hate it or not. This is also on the Wonderswan but has no translation patch on that end.
4.5, Network Transmission, and WS all only have one version.

Best way to play Star Force 1 and 2 is with the DX and "Not So DX" romhacks respectively. There's virtually no differences between the versions outside of the form and giga cards which DX provides you with whenever you want in addition to restoring the cut content like the Lunar Knights crossover in SF1. SF3 is fine on its own.

>>715504223
By your logic Yakuza 1&2 HD shouldn't be played over PS2 1 and 2 because it's a late port despite them being objectively superior in every way to the PS2 versions.

a lack of interesting/engaging scenarios is a big one for me. picrel's an obvious example, but the plane arc for bn2 in general was great, giving you a mountain of constantly changing npc dialogue and even occasionally rewarding you with a chip or two if you really go out of your way to chat everyone up. bn2+3 had most of them, but i still find a few of the scenarios in bn1 to be fairly memorable
consequently, i can't really name off a scenario from bn4-6 that really stuck with me (for a good reason, shit like toyrobo comp is certainly seared into my mind though). there's more i could list off (graphics, story tone), but i haven't thought about them well enough to eloquently type them out

>NOOOOO THE ENEMIES HIT ME TOO HARD NERF THEM ALL
If you actually read anything the three enemies they nerfed were because the armor system has been removed entirely because of Geo's existence and in return buffed Bass because he was too easy. Anubis was "nerfed" to put him in line with his own chip because doing the opposite (Buffing the chip) would make an already broken chip even more broken for the low HP values most enemies had. They even outright nerf you by preventing you from Navi stacking someone like Roll x5.

>now that AI is a widespread thing
AI hallucinates, provides false information, and has a limit on how much data it is able to record. That one guy who married a chatbot is sort of the example here of where we're at with these things. We are not at the point where Net Navis exist, and even if they did they would be equivalent to Alexa or Cortana in terms of usage. Are you someone who is a proponent of The Internet of Things? Do you like your privacy or are you willing to give up tons of personal data and conversations? Because the reality of a Net Navi is an Alexa or Cortana that is constantly phoning home recording you to iterate on itself.

Still baffles me that devs decided to scrap NetNavis in such a way, like I'm pretty sure Wizards should have been on the floor even during SF1 development. They're the next evolution of Net Navis, something SF3 seems to ignore despite the obvious.
