my favorite part in 1 is the frustration/tension of falling down the mountain or getting swept away by a stream and losing your stuff. Seems like 2 has too many options that make it easier and more boring to get around

Played through DS2 and I think the best way to play it is to just do the main orders on brutal -difficulty. Like the first game the worst part is the road building and driving vehicles, because you effectively optimize the most fun and engaging part of the game out of the game.
