I played RDR1 once when it came out and then again last year. It hasn't aged well. It's a big open world with literally nothing to do. Even less to do than in GTA's empty open world. All you do is ride horses to the next cut scene and then have a gun fight. That's it. I went in with the nostalgia goggles on but it disappointed me. It's still playable but it just feels empty overall. The only reason to play is for the story, which you could just watch on youtube anyway.
I'll never play RDR2 btw. Rockstar died to me a long time ago.

RDR1 has better shooting but the game itself isn't as fun as RDR2. I liked riding around in RDR2 and just finding funny situations, hunting and admiring the scenery. There's little to do in RDR1 other than just shoot dudes and play cards.

Both games are good, but after replaying RDR1 after it dropped on Steam I tend to agree that 2 is better. I did enjoy my time replaying 1 and it was not as bad as when I replayed Red Dead Revolver after playing RDR1.

RDR1 was my favourite game for years but, much to my surprise, 2 blew it out of the water. It expanded on all the mechanics that wanted to be deeper from the first game, like hunting and customisation, and added much more

RDR1 does still win a few areas, namely having a better background score, better sunrises/sunsets and having Liar's Dice. Also being able to play Poker for real money rather than just pocket change

Fictional stories aren't depressing when you're an adult. It has everything to do with the fucking constant input lag and gameplay systems like bounties, the law, and challenges which are just worse than they were in the first game.
