I unironically only wanted a PS3 as a kid because it could play Blu Rays, which I thought was the coolest technological advancement for some reason. I didn't even have a hd-tv. I wish I had gotten one though because I missed out on some cool games.

What was the reason for not using voucher or digital download codes for the PS3? Precisely when did the change occur, from not including physical media in console bundles? The PS4 still came with some physical games bundled in.

PSN connection speeds were shit and you still couldn't really trust everyone to understand that they could connect their game console to the internet without accessories.
That's literally why the Wii had a whole program for getting people connected to the internet (an absurdly fucking generous one to boot, it was something like Nintendo giving you $5 for every person you connect (you have them input a code once it's set up), and once you had 20 connections you got every VC game for free, there's a reason this promotion only lasted a year or two).

Nah, I think corporations just realized they could get away with anything, and people would just accept getting fucked. They saw all the fanboys performing mental gymnastics to defend them online, and they realized that they no longer needed to hide their greed. Honestly I want a PS3 nowadays because of the exclusives and 7th gen games I probably missed out on, due to being a Wiitendie. I'm aware I'm not getting Halo, but I never really cared for that franchise.

Most people get their movies digitally. That was a shift that happened fairly naturally. That's why, if they are included, they are digital codes. At the time of the PS3's launch, most people didn't know digital movies existed outside of piracy. Hence Sony still using physical releases for movie bundles.
