can someone recommend a definitive play order for someone new to the series? From what gather Yakuza 0 is the best start and a lot of the older ones are outdated
>>715522545 if you can use an emulator, release order if you refuse to use an emulator, you can play 0 then kiwami 1/2 then 3/4/5 (ideally replay 0 so you can appreciate all of the references flying over your head) 6, judgement, 7, lost judgement, ishin, gaiden, 8, and now pirate gaiden
>>715522545 do not fall for retards dogshit opinions on this topic 0 -> Kiwami 1 -> Kiwami 2 -> numerical order do not get memed into starting with kiwami 1 or emulating the ps2 games just start with 0 like a sane person
>>715521971 (OP) Akin to GTA San Andreas it feels like a damn Odyssey and every chapter feels like its own game. >First part is Wangan Midnight >Second is Cabela's Dangerous Hunts >Third (First Half) is Project DIVA >Third (Second Half) is Yakuza >Fourth is GTA+MLB >Fifth is Yakuza again

I hate this game with a living passion >squanders 4's ending because it would force the gooks to innovate >muh 5 cities being underdevelopped, new ones a chore to navigate full of invis walls >Akiyama feels like an afterthought >new combat addition for novelty's sack (aki's air combat is clunky at best and the setup clashes with his kit) >weapon grinding >Haruka (who previously was a good enough supporting cast) is a fucking idiot and the twats sent against her never get any comeuppance >YET ANOTHER KIRYU'S DEATH FAKEOUT
>>715523427 Idiots meme on 4 for muh rubber bullitz but never mention even more retarded stuff like Yamato II and Mirror Face. Compared to them 4's twist is not that much of an asspull.
>>715523590 this, also it symbolizes a new breed of yakuza using underhanded tactics while old ones like Saejima being a dying one. In the context of the time it also is believable saejima wouldn't be able to understand since it was a recent project and he was full of adrenaline. 4's biggest problem is Saejima's sister
>>715523670 >In the context of the time it also is believable saejima wouldn't be able to understand since it was a recent project and he was full of adrenaline. And rubber bullets despite their non lethal nature still pack a punch, they're designed to subdue rioters as in to leave them incapacitated and squirming on the ground, so no wonder Saejima didn't notice a thing.
>>715523905 add to that the ones he fucking punched and the spilled red soup

>>715522470 while I hate shityama I must say it is fitting Aizawa is the final boss: he's like Haruka where his father worked his ass off to hand him a confortable position without the hassle of getting it out of love, without understand the pain it can cause (kiryu leaving and old fart plotting and betraying).

>>715523590 Rubber bullets weren't the worst thing Yakuza pulled I agree but "we don't know what to do now, so let's just put a big pile of cash on a roof to bait all the bad guys as a climactic finale" was the worst thing Yakuza pulled
>>715524007 it was just cool andthe plot wasn't built around it. Besides every bad guy in 4 were greedy fucks (am still laughing over Kiryu beating the shit out of his surrogate son he abandonned)
>>715524372 Because it was the first PS4 gen game, they made all that new shit for it.

>>715524238 Mostly due to the lack of impact it actually causes on the story overall. You have this country wide conspiracy and local Jason Vorhees who's apparently murdered hundreds over this secret but once it's revealed all you get is "The consequences of this will be severe" and it's swiftly forgotten as a background prop. They could have shown some public unrest or some protests happening on TV to show just how fucked up everything is but nothing ever happens.
>>715522545 Always release order or you'll be filtered by RGG 3

>>715521971 (OP) I marathonned them all back to back and my brain was ready to explode when I got to five so I can't really answer your question, anon. I should probably go back and replay them over time.

>>715523590 Mirror Face wasn't that bad, it was less of a plot twist but more so "Remember this goofy side-plot character? We brought him for the finale for giggles". In the overarching narrative he is still not that important. They could've easily written around him just by continuing to depict Tendou as a wild card instead making him into a clear-cut villain, and just convinced him to join Ichiban's side after the fight, but they didn't because they wanted to bring up the joke character.

>>715524238 It's just sad that Japan is still obssesed over that failure of a warship
>>715524469 >lack of impact it actually causes on the story overall >is the reason why Kiryu is with daidoji for the next 3 games Okay, so you just don't like that it's a big ship because big ships are silly
>>715524731 That's the point, kinda. Yamato was a failure and you have nationalistic japanese geezers pouring money into Yamato II that'll definitely be cooler this time even though the war ended decades ago and it's just a money sink now.

>>715524898 I've yet to play Gaiden nigga, 7 and Ishin made me want to take a long break from the games before I start to despise them. In context of Yakuza 6 it was a swept under the rug nothingburger.
>>715524986 >swept under the rug Except for the ending of the game where Kiryu agrees to delete himself to hide the secret of the ship. Which is more impactful than anything that happens in 4, or 5.
>>715525086 >Except for the ending of the game where Kiryu agrees to delete himself to hide the secret of the ship He deleted himself to give Haruka, Hayato, the kids and Yuta a peaceful life. Daidoji was nothing more than a name and a dying geezer on a bed
>>715525176 it would've been cool if this wasn't the fourth time they were doing the tower climax, and the gang wasn't walking up there to see if the mentally disabled fish took the totally inconspicuous bait

>>715521971 (OP) Don't know, 3 & 4 were such trash that I stopped playing the series.
>>715524372 Because they made a brand new engine for the game, redid basically everything including the basics, and didn't do a Kenzan or Ishin prior to releasing it. They also have low budgets so voicing everything likely caused major issues on that front on top of it all.

does The Man Who Erased His Name even count as a mainline game? i finished it in 16 hours
>>715522248 >>715526046 >Be Baba >Think your Patriarch walks on water >Go to prison as part of your Patriarch's master plan >Hang out with Saejima >Bond with Saejima, he is your Big Bro >End of game, you are now caught between the ideals of your aniki or obeying your Patriarch >After an emotional rollercoaster you choose to lay down the rifle and turn your back on your Patriarch >Suddenly some ojisan shows up, sprouts some baseball metaphors, then beats you up

>>715526696 Y-yeah? You don't say? But I wasn't asking about 7 or 8...
Best and most varied maps, best cast with the most interesting and distinct fighting styles, Haruka idol minigame for fags such as myself, Baseball minigame for dudebros It really has something for everyone, provided you played everything up to that point and know whats going on. Real shame 6 just said fuck it and threw that all away, opting for slightly better graphics but with much worse combat. Don't even get me started on the RPG garbage that followed
