I never really warmed up to the companions though. They feel too much like playersexual sexdolls that are constantly horny to take them serisouly and if it's not that then they are lame, like Wyll. Gale has main protag syndrome, I find it more interesting to play as him rather than having him as a companion

I also think the game is 9/10. My main issue is the companions. I like Shadowheart and Lae'zel, but the others aren't really likeable. If I want Halsin, he only joins your party in Act 2. Gameplay-wise the game is great, but yeah, the game isn't flawless.
You can see I'm using Karlach in this screenshot, but I totally forgot I could have used Halsin instead and just switched in Karlach at the end of the game for story reasons.

The momentum in the modding community was derailed multiple times since big landmark patches would totally break all mods made before the patch. If they had those mod tools available and consistent since launch I think there would be a bigger modding scene.

I think 5e also sorta limits what people can do until someone overhauls it into a more interesting or atleast less annoying system. I think I remember someone doing an overhaul into cooldowns+action points.

Also like a year ago someone had a "RTwP" system and it was kind of interesting that ally and enemy AI would all just move and blast immediately.

What drags this game down:

>Really underwhelming soundtrack
>Some of gameplay choices - the soi DICE ROLL simulation is the lamest reddit thing i've seen in a game
>Stripping away of consequences to pander to the nu-DnD manchild fanbase that want their cake and eat it too so they done away with using the tadpole powers having negative consequences etc.

Everything else is pretty much stellar and the freedom of choice and gameplay options is amazing.

7/10 on release, now a rock-solid 8/10, maybe even a 8.5/10 if we cut it some slack. It's really an Enhanced Edition or an expansion or two short of undisputed 10/10 and it's the worst thing knowing that Larian is absolutely capable of polishing it to this status

A genuinely great experience and a watershed game marred by various instances of wokeness and highly questionable retcons/character assassinations that rear their ugly head like a bad case of an STI, alongside a legion of bugs that still plague the game as I type this very post. Patch 8 introduced a debilitating UI/navigation bug that creates so much lag/delay when using gamepad controls that it has pretty much rendered the game unplayable until Larian releases another hotfix/patch. 2015 had The Witcher 3. 2023 had Baldur's Gate 3.

the actual gameplay itself is too simple/generic thanks to 5e. All the perks are bland/shit thanks to 5e. really wish they just re-used DOS combat because that was significantly more fun.
the story, most characters, world, quests, interactivity, etc are all a 10/10 though.
