A proper modern 3D one would play a lot like Yakuza. Somewhat open world, chapter based, story segments, add in some choices, and rather simple combat with finishers. I think dividing chapters into day/night would work.

I hate that I missed out on Sailor Moon Drops. The puzzle games were better than the other games.

People told me Another Story was hard but it's really about level grinding until you can one shot everything.

That's mostly a budget thing, where they want them moving as little as possible (dodging with still shots, and then standing back firing projectiles with re-used animation). In the movies when they get a budget, Mars and Jupiter especially get very physical.

the fighting game gives them a lot of new moves and throws (mostly judo or pro-wrestling of course). yes of course the sailor senshi should be pulling off DDT moves. Of course.

Cuz it's a cheapo show meant to have as many episodes as possible. Characters stand around for 10 minutes with some jokes, then there's 12 minutes of action mostly of still images and re-used attack animations.

If you want Magical Girls with hand to hand combat, just watch Precure, Rayearth, and Cutie Honey.

That said, Venus has one hell of amazing moveset. Lasers, a chain, a sword, and her own heart-shaped spell.
