tl;dw they spent too much time and money on open world and fell for sunk cost fallacies. They put a shitton of effort into the open world and are absolutely FURIOUS that nobody likes it. Which is hilarious because for the time and effort the overworld took, they could have likely released a game with way more tracks that was as good as MK8D.

Because people have rose tinted goggles on whenever they think back on MK8 and consider it the better game because of how piss easy it was in comparison. MKW is bullshit but also genuinely difficult, the cpu will fucking smoke you if you make one misstep if you're playing at the top of your game. MK8 is *just* bullshit. If you're even partially competent, you'll have almost half a laps lead on second place. If you lose in MK8, it's because the game targeted you and said "this person isn't winning anymore." The cpu's will take routes that aren't even beneficial to them just to swipe you with a shell, you'll get back to back lightning uses, bullet bills will shoot someone up to second or third place because of how far ahead you are, the game is a clusterfuck in the worst way possible.

it has a much smaller install base than MK8 and I'm guessing of all the people playing online, there's like 5 individual turbo autists who show up in literally every single race. they'll continue to support the game and more people will be playing it as more people can get a switch 2

-Better core gameplay. Seriously, I went back to play 8DX and it feels like controlling a brick by comparison
-Better tracks that allow you to do a shitload of cool tricks
-Costumes for the characters
-Better soundtrack, tho 8 is really good too
-A ton of P-Switch challenges that really test your skill
-And the cherry on top: Knockout Tour probably the most fun mode in MK ever

The only thing 8 has over World is the battle mode and 200cc, and even then, World has a better battle mode than vanilla 8 and 200cc was an update that will surely come to World too.

BAsed. I think how much Knockout Tour adds is genuinely really understated, it's a fantastic game mode that's only held back by being limited to 8 options. If they let you build a custom rally of 4 tracks (with limitations on what connects to what obviously) it'd legitimately be the best game mode in MK history.

Post-gen 7 console wars are so depressing. Just roleplaying jeet farms screaming at other roleplaying jeet farms about something they never experienced or will ever comprehend.

The highways have no business being in the standard race mode and should've been exclusive to knockout tour.
Love everything about the game except for the current state of online and being pushed into private lobbies to play normally.

For me, it's a combination of a few things:
1. Items are fucking out of control in this game. Stuff that used to be super rare now happens every single race or even every single lap.
2. Driving feels really slow for some reason, if you're not boosting it feels like you're just puttering along.
3. Big jumps have to be charged up, so you can't just jump up on a rail or wall on a whim, every rail or wall ride has to be meticulously planned out ahead of time so you can start charging up a jump in advance. I was expecting to just have a big jump button and for MKW to be a platforming kart game, jump charging sucks the fun out of all that.
It just ended up being less fun than it looked.

This bothers me, too. Every track is Toad's Turnpike now, which sucks. It makes GP more annoying and KT less special, so it's just a bad decision all around.

The final lap on a highway race is such a chaotic shitfest of everyone popping their power items you never really get a chance to get a feel for the shortcuts and what not. Open world with very little to do, I think open world can genuinely work if you make it full of bullshit to do and have fast and deep movement (world has neither).

Track design barely complimenting the new mechanics, with a few outliers.

A big roster that ended up just being everyone but the kitchen sink. It just feels boring despite the fact it's big because it's just nameless enemies that don't stick.

MKWorld is still obviously better than MK8DX. There's more stuff to do in a race, it's just far more mechanically interesting. And I don't wanna hear shit about number of tracks considering all of the Booster Course tracks look like low effort mobileshit.
The only MK you could really make an argument for being better would be Wii, but even then, it's a toss-up.
