Why did cyberpunk get praised as a masterpiece after the 2.0 update?

Sure they (mostly) fixed loads of bugs, but that doesn't change the fact that the open world is completely lifeless, absolutely nothing happens other than repeated scripted events. The NPCs basically have no AI, It's objectively far less interactive/"living" than decade+ old GTA games.

None of those things matter remotely. But yeah, 2.0 made many changes for the worse, like how weapons rarely get dropped by dead enemies so there's no loot to sell.

>weapons rarely get dropped by dead enemies so there's no loot to sell.
money is non-issue in the game because missions pay out tons, plus all the loose cash and money shards you find all the time.

and you still get plenty of weapons of enemies, you just dont get so many that youre overencumbered after a couple fights anymore. and even then, because money is so plentiful, its a better idea to just turn everything into crafting components for making something better than any trash mob will drop. and if you hate crafting, you can just sell the weightless components.

biggest astro turf was dlc
you would think they would fill out smaller area with content but not really, you get a few missions here and there but is mostly just
>see that smoke trail get that fortnite lootbox teehee
or
>carjack few cars and slowly drive them back to Night City while enemies spawn occasionally
the only interesting parts were in the main quest, you get one mission where you can use the holographic mask and that's it

>none of those things matter

They do to anyone above single digit IQ who look beyond the most basic surface level. The world having zero sandboxy AI interactions, and seeing the same few scripted events over and over is very immersion breaking in a game that's supposed to be an immersive "living, breathing" world in the devs own words.

It should've at least been on par with GTA 5, but even GTA 3 has AI driven interactions not present here.

when cp77 came out i had a 1070ti and could barely run the game above 30fps on all low settings. still saw very few bugs. occasionally a quest update would hang but you could just quicksave, then load it to fix it.

You know what, fair enough. I stand corrected. PC players of all kinds were able to play the game. I experienced about 5 bugs at launch, only one of which that required a reload.
That is about 20% as much as I had with Skyrim at launch, but nobody really cried about that game being a broken piece of shit and still does today. Weird.

it's definitely not a masterpiece, but it's a pretty damn good game that does some things incredibly well, mostly relating to presentation. Quite possibly the most aesthetically impressive videogame universe to date. It's all incredibly well.conceived at all levels of analysis. Unfortunately the actual narrative plot is kind of meh and the game allows for pretty limited interaction and exploration with this incredible world, but it has it's high points.

There's plenty of videos out there comparing the AI driven interactions of GTA titles to cyberpunk.

>NPCs can get into fights
>NPCs stealing other NPCs vehicles
>NPCs can be antagonized, some will throw fists if annoyed enough
>gangs roaming & fighting
>cops getting involed in all of the above
>ambulances turning up at injury scenes
>fire engines turning up
>etc

None of this happens outside of a few scripted events in cyberpunk, and modders have only been able to improve it a bit.

That would be fair a point if the devs didn't boldly claim the game to be the most believable game world ever made with fully routined NPCs with day & night schedules.

We can find evidence of how they were indeed attempting this, but at some point gave up and resorted to mostly using the lifeless NPCs we have now, who don't do anything but walk & repeat pretty idle animations.

Disagree, I think Male V sounds kinda tryhard but heโ€™s honestly pretty good when dealing with the more emotional moments. When vik tells him how long he has left he sounds very raw.
Him and Johnny both sound that way in the beginning and they open up as the game goes on, especially in the DLC.

I give them props for updating the game 5 years later to improve it, but I doubt it's going to touch on the GTA style NPC interaction the OP is talking about.

At least some modders are improving this stuff, like there's one that adds in roaming gangs members who organically get into turf wars or shootouts with cops

I have they implement the mods that let you sit & lean anywere like NPCs can, such simple immersion improvements

I agree the world of night city looks amazing, but for me personally the lack of non-player interactions quickly makes it feel like an uncanny stage play or the truman show. It's such a shame because if it just had those basic GTA style interactions it would help the "living world" immersion so much, I'd maybe go as far as actually saying it would actually be a masterpiece.

I definitely felt that the main quest was on a bit of a bell curve, where the beginning and end were pretty shit, but the middle bits where Johnny was coming to grips with his own mortality were rewarding.
I think what hurts the game most are the interactions with the main cast of side characters (basically the romance ones). Only Judy and Panam get anything approaching an interaction with the main story, and I even found myself weakening on Panam during the endings/the voicemails that play at the credits. Johnny ended up being my favorite character, despite his awful initial appearance and Keanu's bottom-tier voice acting; Johnny shitting on V during the Devil ending and calling out what a coward he was was probably my favorite bit of dialogue in the game.

Same, I had a lot of fun just driving from one gig to the other in first-person and exploring the city. I dunno what it was but the Badlands were especially fun to roam around in, despite them being obstinately empty desert.
It must be because I'm actually from the American SW so it was like going back home.

It's fucking true. The game was great right from launch and I'm not going to pretend otherwise to give comfort to conslow players. It was actually better at launch because the clothing stats forced actual decisions onto the player and speccing outside of guns meant you had to actually play as such.

>The NPCs basically have no AI, It's objectively far less interactive/"living" than decade+ old GTA games.
A bunch of the NPCs, i.e the important ones like Panam, were actually given full daily routines
Those routines can even change to include the player if you're romancing the character, you can invite them to your apartment and do stuff with them there
But it is a weird contrast where the important people have routines and do things each day and the unimportant people just stand there in place forever
However, I will say that routines aren't always a good thing. Bethesda games can glitch out bad when trying to simulate routines

>Leave my car on the sidewalk
>go inside for a mission
>exit building

yes someone posted a video above which looked into the cut NPC routines. Some are still in the game like you mention, but its not many. It seems they set it do it for all NPCs originally as they boasted about it in a video, but gave up at some point and just added all these cardboard cutout NPCs instead.

I think in a game like this it's perfectly fine for the NPCs to not have TES/KCD2 style routines, but to make up for it they need GTA style reactivity so it feels alive. Cyperpunk has neither.

It means that you wouldn't miss a single thing if it was a linear game that just teleported you from location to location. It would probably be better.
An example of it being done right are games like Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim where the stuff that happens along the way is way more interesting that the main story quests.

I'd say caring about that crap is retarded, but then I remember a good chunk of marketing focused on the 'nightcity is so lifelike' nonsense. Like the Keanu meme, he literally talked about how immersive the city is just before the breathtaking thing.
Meanwhile the game can't tell you aren't driving on the sidewalk and will launch passerby's directly into your way because it also can't tell the dumb NPC which way to leap.

my number one issue is how flat everything feels, there's all these tall multi-storied complexes and you aren't allowed to go inside them, and the ones you can it's always just the base floor and a dedicated upper floor that only exists to serve as a set-piece for a quest and you forget about it forever

Yeah, especially if you never played it or only touched it around launch. The 2.0 update basically turned it into the game they advertised back in 2018, and with Phantom Liberty itโ€™s finally worth the price. Just make sure your rig (or deck) can handle it, because it still runs like shit on potatoes. You'll get your edgerunner fix and probably spend more time dicking around in Night City than actually doing story missions.

Part of the marketing programming - when they get the discord folks to parrot this same thing game suddenly becomes a success.
When they 'fixed it' was they finally made the game shippable 1-2 years out of the gate.
Truth bends.
It's the most vapid gameplay experiences I've seen - first part is not bad but it's like any other Ubisoft game - first part is always great until you realize that's all.
