Old nintendo refused to release a new game unless it had a new innovation or gimmick.

Depends on the time scale. American corps think short to medium term, they will burn shit tonnes of money and scale like crazy before reaping the profits and destroying their company in the process. One their product is so shit nobody wants to use it anymore they buy up competitors and startups then live on like a parasite till they run out of resources.
