I am one of the biggest DaS3 defenders on Earth but no. DaS3 is very specifically designed to conclude DaS1 and 2's narrative throughline, and DaS1 specifically is the only "must play" between the 3.

Its rollspam dogshit and the death of old fromsoft game design.
Fromsoft threw away most of their weird obtuse mechanics to HARD focus on an objectively 1 dimensional combat system where the roll is everything. Its downright PARODY what this game thinks enemy movesets should be. For 100% of your playtime you will be watching armored knights do flips and spins into 7 hit combos. While your only interaction with this is roll and r1. Real action games give your character the cool spins too, so DS3 utterly fails at its entire focus. DS3 is what a 0/10 triple A game looks like
Shadow tower Kingsfield 4 and Dark souls 1 are the most proper Fromsoft games. DS3 is the anti Fromsoft game.

3 has the worst gameplay, worst aesthetics, worst world and the least interesting bosses overall. It was made from low-effort assets slapped together in a hurry and it shows.
DaS3 is punching in the same weight class as DaS2, which was stapled together from salvaged, practically placeholder assets with a lot of ambitious featurecreep.
If you're playing souls, then you're playing it because you want some decently competent Japanese eurojank-like dungeoncrawler gameplay and only DaS1 delivers on that (DeS does as well, but that's a PS3 title with dead online).

If you wanted to roll like the first game you need adaptability, if you were having trouble getting to a boss killing enemies several times will make them de-spawn them you can burn a bonfire ascetic that make the enemies come back but they're stronger.

Dark Souls 2 is the only souls game you should be playing

All the Dark Souls games are great; never understood the hate towards 2 and 3 (and 1 as of late).
In my opinion 1 is the best of the three due to being the most "balanced" when it came to the sum of its parts.
2 was uneven, full of great peaks and low valleys, and 3 was the most polished but at the same time it was too straightforward.

I did, and it was an interesting enough experience. It sort of shows you all the best and worst tropes of the genre so you can decide if you like it or not. The visual design is excellent, the music is solid, a cohesive story is basically nonexistent, the gameplay is fun but tedious at times, and I avoided the multiplayer like the plague, so I wouldn't know what to tell you about that other than the coop system is really shit.

Nowhere does DS2 imply that curse is the same as petrification, it's even 2 different status effects. NPC in DS1 die for good even when not hollow so again his core argument is worthless. Hollowing also IS inherent state of humanity, it's there in the opening cinematic of DS1.
