Why do people do this?
FOMO
These are the same people who complain that the story makes no sense.
>>715547264 (OP)they don't. nobody reads some wikipedia plot summary. you can just jump in.
>>715547264 (OP)You don't need to do any of that. If you're inspired to watch/read/play the latest version because you're a faggoty trend chaser just start with the most recent entry. It's not that serious.
>>715547597>>715547670I have a friend who did this with Kingdom Hearts and MGS.
>>715547930i've done it with mgs and kingdom hearts and pretty much every "story heavy" series and it's no problem. and if i've played the earlier game, i'm alcoholic so i don't remember anything at all from the earlier game(s) so it's pretty much the same case in the end.
if there's anything important it's almost always explained in the game in some way.
other than that you might not get some retarded reference to earlier game. whooppa dooppaa daa. who the fuck cares.
My sister does this with movies/games and she always complains about the story making zero sense when she watches whatever the newest installment is. It's infuriating but I also don't want to be "that guy".
>>715548715Ironic, considering she is "that girl".
>>715547264 (OP)>movie : 90-120 minutes x3>book: 3 to 5 hours x3>tv show : 40 minutes x 12-24 episodes x3 seasons (ok you got me)>game : 15-50 hours x 3i just don't fucking have the time ok?
>>715547264 (OP)My friend will only play games in chronological release order
I don't think he'll ever play a game made past 2020 at this rate
>>715548715Never be afraid of that. Things get bad when there aren't "that guy"s around to correct them. They only hate you because they know you're right.
Unless they're specifically episodic games have more of an expectation to be standalone.
Shovelware developers used to release games titled like "Game 2" where Game 1 never existed at all, but the "2" might make the buyer think the developer is good because they made a game successful enough to get a sequel.
>>715547264 (OP)>starting with movie: part 4I thought this was going to be a star wars joke.
>>715547264 (OP)>>movie: part 4>>"I'll watch parts 1-3">>book: volume 3>>"I'll reason volumes 1 and 2">>tv show: season 5>>"I'll watch seasons 1-4"you're genuinely retarded
>>715548715>It's infuriating but I also don't want to be "that guy".She's your sister. How are you going to be "that guy" to your sibling? Why would you care?
I feel like if there's anyone I could harmlessly call out on silly behavior, it's my brothers.
If it's Dragon Quest or something similar where it's more of an episodic nature of mostly self-contained stories, there is no reason to start from the beginning in case you want to get into DQ XI. I'm not going to miss out on anything critical to the plot or characters if all of those are new with this installment. Nor will I be missing out on critical information to understand anything going on by not Wario's Woods if I want to play Wario Land 4.
Starting a more serialized franchise like Metal Gear, Kingdom Hearts, Yakuza/Like a Dragon, Ace Attorney, etc. from the most recent installment is straight up retarded, though. Most people jumping right into serialized franchises like that just have late onset FOMO, likely give it a few hours at most, before dropping it and moving on to the next thing.
>>715551104Also, I realize that DQ XI does have significant callbacks to other games in the series. But those elements are either designed to be fanservice or to get you interested in earlier entries. They don't require massive loredumps like KH3 does.
>>715547264 (OP)What do Persona 3, Fallout 3, and Demons souls have in common? Zoomers skip the better preceding games
