What GAMES are you PLAYING?
I can appreciate Chaos Head for jumpstarting sci;adv and giving us Steins;Gate but it did NOT age well
Aiyoku no Eustia. What should I read next?
Currently reading through Rewrite+ on my deck with the recent salvation patch
Only one I ever beat was AI: The Somnium Files and I enjoyed my time with it. I tried Steins;Gate but got bored. Maybe I will try one of the Ace Attorney games soon.

VNs shouldn't have to have gameplay. It's a similar debacle to older RPGs where, for example, FF7 had long 3D animations as a selling point when the gameplay is still inherently simple.
With that being said, VNs reducing interactivity from the ADV days to being linear stories, maybe with branching paths and a stronger focus on assets to sell the setting, world characters, etc., is a real hard pill to swallow.
I luckily got the entire Muv-Luv saga available back during the humble, and that felt like a reasonable steal of a price, so why are so many VNs so expensive for relatively simpler products? I'm sure VNs have amazing stories and designs for a digital novel, but you can't sell most people on digital book.

>>715558378>why are so many VNs so expensive for relatively simpler productsI would assume that a lot of it is cultural inertia.
The traditional VN audience is a small population of otaku, who were prepared to spend significantly to keep studios afloat by themselves.
You can compare it with anime, the old rule of thumb was that selling 10k DVDs / BDs was already a big success. Even a massive phenomenon like Haruhi sold about 40k. At that point you HAVE to charge a lot or you can't keep the lights on.
With Steam / international console releases the economics are different (more customers but also more competition), so who knows.

>>715564193>Iโd forgive it if the true end route wasnโt one of the most ridiculous parts of the story. There's nothing ridiculous about it. you won't accidentally start the next one.
>>715568984Not that guy, but yes.
You will get kicked back to the menu after each story.
The first chapter has two parts, the first part is the one with all the lesbian sex and the second one (which you get if you select the same chapter again) is quite a bit different, but still has Yuki as the protagonist. After that the protagonist changes.
I do think there are some games where it's fun to figure out the choices yourself, but Subahibi isn't really one of them and I'd recommend just using a guide for the later chapters / endings.

I'm making a visual novel! (but in comic style which takes a lot more art assets to make)
>>715575805>>715575847Why not? Books are also like that, You need to tune in to the story and know the characters to begin to care and understand the story.
Not everything is instant gratification
>>715576065It has nothing to do with instant gratification and it has nothing to do with the medium. Set up can be well written and enjoyable to read, I have no idea why you think it must be inherently boring or bad.
>>715576060I'm also making one. Designing a unique art style has been hell but it also seems like the hardest part. Once you do that and make some great OCs it gets a lot easier IMO
>>715576065Real books are more enjoyable to read at the start because standards for editing are very high in the publishing industry.
The most noble and impactfull of texts require through reading and attention. A good videogame doesn't necessarily need to bring instant positive feedback from the get go (In fact, it could be more of a sign that it might be slop)
>>715576441Do you think the western canon is what the usual quality of "real books" are like?
>>715576276Nah, if you're doing comic-style stuff, it stays hard all the way through.
>>715576658My dude even stuff like stephen king is meticulously edited far beyond the standard of vn scripts

>I have no mouth but I could blow you standing up
>>715575805I disagree, especially in Hundred Line's case where the prologue is wildly different from the rest of the game.
>>715576441I would rather have boring setup that leads to something I enjoy than the other way around. That makes it more memorable in some cases, like Mask of Deception. I was so close to dropping that multiple times, but I stuck with it and got some amazing payoff.
>>715576712Very nice, looks like MMX
>>715576782In what way? The scripts are definitely better on a moment to moment basis than most VNs. They sometimes spend years just editing them alone
>>715576065At least for me the ending came out of nowhere and lacked any kind of catharsis.
The game spends the whole time beating you over the head with how infinite realities mean truly infinite, and then says that there is no time the mc will be happy with the girl.
Then it just ends.
>>715577020 its definetely fatalistic in nature, albeit most people are cynical nowadays so it might be a reflection

Why did Chaos Head have so many plotholes or am I just stupid
>Why was Rimi at the crucifiction crime scene? Why was everything covered in blood, but then why did the police say the crime acene was clean with no blood at all? How did โfour peopleโs delusion melt togetherโ or whatever, when that never happens again?
>Why was the villain obsessed with โWhose eyes are those eyesโ when only Taku and Shogun should know about it? What was even the point of that essay besides being a red herring?

Is CH love chu chu playable if you just want moege without having to play the original VN? The opening looks fun.
>>715599289I wouldn't call it a moege and no, it's basically an honest sequel to c;h noah. no reason to read lcc in isolation

I'm still stuck in Mojika but want to play Nuki2, Time Travelers and Henpri.
>>715603546Yes. Maitetsu. Though it's still comfy without ero.
>>715574819mahoyo, i think i got like 10 hours into the game and it still felt like a prologue. Characters are mannequin, no story, no humour, no drama, just completely worthless. Nasu is next level hack.

I'm at the part where you and Nasar are sitting outside his house and he's venting about his parents' expectations of him and the stress of trying to help his sister. Shit's surprisingly well written

What is the best emulator for VNs on android? I'm trying to run the italian version of Fata Morgana and Winlator stutters too much.
And Kirikiroid doesn't seem to work.
>>715609948Another day without a Love Chu Chu translation.
>>715609963Depends on VN engine, there isn't any united one just for VN
>>715610303The data file for the italian version has the .xp3 extension, so theoretically Kirikidroid should run it.
I don't remember what was the issue last time I tried to run it (which was like a year or so ago). Probably that the version is from GOG.
I will see what the visual novel general on /vg/ can tell me, since I don't have the files on my phone right now.

>AI 1-2

Any more good mystery VNs from the last 10 years?
So far I've finished Dies irae, Taimanin, The House in Fata Morgana, Chaos;Head, Subahibi, and Full Metal Daemon: Muramasa.
About to read Hanachirasu because I ended up liking the character writing in Muramasa so much. Any other (similar) VN to pick up? Doesn't need to share any themes, but edgekino is a plus.
>>715589404>and Steins;Gate are that highsteins gate has good writing
it literally beats most VNs just on that

Paranormasight is probably the most recent one, hopefully they'll be able to flesh things out more in the sequel.

>ZTD was goodIt wasnโt bad, people just hated it (including myself) because it dropped every plotline from VLR and ended on more cliffhangers. In hindsight it is fine on its own
>>715612047Kaigen Seito is also written by Narahara and is kind of like a sequel to Hanachirasu. It has gameplay elements and those are pretty shitty since it makes it grindy but the entire final sequence is pure kino
>>715610202Yeah, what the fuck happened with that? Last I checked committee of zero were making a lot of progress on that and then it just moved at a snail's pace.
>>715571223This fag posts this list in every thread and I'd like to encourage other anons to ignore every title in this list. Corpse Factory and Reaplaced were terrible and I assume the rest are just as bad.
>>715612508>2004 was ten years ago?Still is.
Chaos;Child is fucking rancid dogshit, I had to drop it before even finishing the common route.
>>715614163Very sad post.
>>715614163Common was fine. True route was garbage.
>>715614094I wonder how long it's going to be until Uchikoshi makes a VN that's explicitly about trans people, he's clearly fascinated by genderbender elements in his stories, I'd like to read it.
I would have read an entire VN about what happens to So Sejima stuck in Iris's body after one of the AI: Somnium Files endings, that's a genuinely fascinating premise.
>>715614034>Corpse FactoryCorpse Factory got so stupid in the second half that it became unintentionally funny; all of the entertainment value I got out of it was me yelling at my screen because of how dumb everyone was and how stupid their plans were.

>>715615150>solo heroine VNsThis one is good.
>>715620810heard she acts too much like 3dpd
>>715621164She acts like a bitch only to male MC. It makes sense later when you discover the nature of their relationship, although before that you basically have to see how the couple ruin 3 of their male friend's day from them trying to figure out what kind of relationship they're in with each other.
Playing Sound of Drop since one of you guys once told me that it was a horror game kinda similar to Death Mark but I'm not really seeing the similarities here.
>>715547714A delusional NEET retard daydreaming his life away is more current than it's ever been
Best Vn ive ever played honestly
>>715614493It all comes down to MCs. Takumi never asked for any of the shit that happened to him and was subjected to repeated and targeted psychological attacks. He wanted to be left alone and knew he was a pathetic piece of shit. His primary motivation was fear.
Takuru is the reason for all of his problems and stubbornly thought himself better than everyone else. His primary motivation was a giant stick up his ass.
>>715627141Both Chaos MCs are unlikable in different ways. This is why Okabe is a better main character than both and why he was loved more, he had an attractive personality.

For one the visuals and music felt much more unique back then, because we were coming out of the PS3/360 era where AAA visuals were super boring, and indie games mostly looked like pixel crap outside of a couple rare gems, and VNs with cool art styles were really old. Nowadays unique art styles are way more common in the industry. As for the music, it doesn't stand out that much nowadays either and takeshi abo's earlier osts like remember11 hit a lot harder.
A lot of stuff from around 2010 didn't age very well even if it was amazing back then
>>715629284>Nowadays unique art styles are way more common in the industrynot really
>>715629416I agree.
We need VNs that look like this.

>>715629928you should try reading your second vn
>>715630298looks cool actuall
>gachaNevermind.
>>715630527I despise Gachas too, The only reason I picked up this game was because the art style looked cool. I know every Gacha player says this about their game, but the Gacha is completely optional here, you can play all the story content without needing any of the strong characters. The only Gacha thing about it, is that you can't obtain every single character without some luck/money. Worst thing about the game is the community though, it's filled with yurifags/women, but I don't engage them.
>>715612508Paranormasight was so good, I thought I would hate the meta aspect, but it was executed quite well. The prologue where you 1v1 other Curse holders was also fantastic.
