VNs shouldn't have to have gameplay. It's a similar debacle to older RPGs where, for example, FF7 had long 3D animations as a selling point when the gameplay is still inherently simple.

With that being said, VNs reducing interactivity from the ADV days to being linear stories, maybe with branching paths and a stronger focus on assets to sell the setting, world characters, etc., is a real hard pill to swallow.

I luckily got the entire Muv-Luv saga available back during the humble, and that felt like a reasonable steal of a price, so why are so many VNs so expensive for relatively simpler products? I'm sure VNs have amazing stories and designs for a digital novel, but you can't sell most people on digital book.

>why are so many VNs so expensive for relatively simpler products
I would assume that a lot of it is cultural inertia.
The traditional VN audience is a small population of otaku, who were prepared to spend significantly to keep studios afloat by themselves.
You can compare it with anime, the old rule of thumb was that selling 10k DVDs / BDs was already a big success. Even a massive phenomenon like Haruhi sold about 40k. At that point you HAVE to charge a lot or you can't keep the lights on.

With Steam / international console releases the economics are different (more customers but also more competition), so who knows.

Not that guy, but yes.
You will get kicked back to the menu after each story.
The first chapter has two parts, the first part is the one with all the lesbian sex and the second one (which you get if you select the same chapter again) is quite a bit different, but still has Yuki as the protagonist. After that the protagonist changes.

I do think there are some games where it's fun to figure out the choices yourself, but Subahibi isn't really one of them and I'd recommend just using a guide for the later chapters / endings.

Paranormasight is probably the most recent one, hopefully they'll be able to flesh things out more in the sequel.

It wasn’t bad, people just hated it (including myself) because it dropped every plotline from VLR and ended on more cliffhangers. In hindsight it is fine on its own

Kaigen Seito is also written by Narahara and is kind of like a sequel to Hanachirasu. It has gameplay elements and those are pretty shitty since it makes it grindy but the entire final sequence is pure kino

I wonder how long it's going to be until Uchikoshi makes a VN that's explicitly about trans people, he's clearly fascinated by genderbender elements in his stories, I'd like to read it.

I would have read an entire VN about what happens to So Sejima stuck in Iris's body after one of the AI: Somnium Files endings, that's a genuinely fascinating premise.

Corpse Factory got so stupid in the second half that it became unintentionally funny; all of the entertainment value I got out of it was me yelling at my screen because of how dumb everyone was and how stupid their plans were.

She acts like a bitch only to male MC. It makes sense later when you discover the nature of their relationship, although before that you basically have to see how the couple ruin 3 of their male friend's day from them trying to figure out what kind of relationship they're in with each other.

It all comes down to MCs. Takumi never asked for any of the shit that happened to him and was subjected to repeated and targeted psychological attacks. He wanted to be left alone and knew he was a pathetic piece of shit. His primary motivation was fear.
Takuru is the reason for all of his problems and stubbornly thought himself better than everyone else. His primary motivation was a giant stick up his ass.

>Personally I don't think Steins;Gate holds up that well now that it's outside of the era it was created in.
Steins;Gate was a 10/10 a decade ago but I agree
For one the visuals and music felt much more unique back then, because we were coming out of the PS3/360 era where AAA visuals were super boring, and indie games mostly looked like pixel crap outside of a couple rare gems, and VNs with cool art styles were really old. Nowadays unique art styles are way more common in the industry. As for the music, it doesn't stand out that much nowadays either and takeshi abo's earlier osts like remember11 hit a lot harder.
A lot of stuff from around 2010 didn't age very well even if it was amazing back then

I despise Gachas too, The only reason I picked up this game was because the art style looked cool. I know every Gacha player says this about their game, but the Gacha is completely optional here, you can play all the story content without needing any of the strong characters. The only Gacha thing about it, is that you can't obtain every single character without some luck/money. Worst thing about the game is the community though, it's filled with yurifags/women, but I don't engage them.
