If you didn't like Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom, what can Nintendo do to convince you to stay on board with the new formula?

Remove climbing. Remove static abilities that you get from the beginning. Add unique gear again. Remove the open world for a more curated experience. Add dungeons, like real ones like we used to have. Put Link in green again for fuck's sake, Make quests reward you with shit you actually care about. Remove stamina. Add heart pieces back. Give me only 1 horse and her name is Epona.

Just make good dungeons again. The way they are now feel so hollow and unexciting compared to what they used to be like. I miss dungeon items and seeing unique monsters in said dungeons too. It was so fucking lazy for shrine enemies and zonai constructs to be the fill in enemies in the major "dungeons" in both games.

Create a civilization where you have to either follow the law or break the law to get where you're going. Make an economy where you can buy and sell goods with different prices based on supply and demand. Make the underrworld a labyrinth instead of another open world.

The people who bitch about Wilds Zelda just want a Link-themed Soulslike. Which they'll get with the exclusive Elden Ring Tarnished ed. on Switch 2. They will still complain, because they don't actually like games and either want a brutal Skinner box button masher or a moviegame. The number of people with positive experiences with pre-Wilds Zelda is fucking tiny and pushing 40 at this point. It's just not a demo worth dedicating the biggest 1P franchise to. Nintedo will just ignore them.

Nintendo doesn't even have to do THAT much crazy shit to win most classic fans over.
>leave the open-air gameplay for the open world, keep the dungeons linear
>flesh out the dungeons a bit more, replace the shrines with mini dungeons, scale-down on the empty open world; less is more
>better soundtrack that's more majestic and melodic in its score, less 'atmospheric' tracks
>hire better voice actors, BoTW and ToTK english VAs fucking sucked and ruined literally every fucking cutscene
>darker tone and atmosphere, NPCs that aren't oblivious the dangers around them
>remove durability and infinite eating, it kills the difficulty of the game and trivializes everything into a busywork simulator
>drammatically increase the enemy variety. I'm not asking for an Elden Ring-sized bestiary, but TotK's enemy roster was still terrible after the 6-year wait
>start giving a fuck about the story and lore in their games. They kind of have to, now that they're entering the movie & TV industries either way.
>implement difficulty settings from the get go. And no, it can't be something as lazy as increasing the damage output from enemies, or turning them into HP sponges. They'll need faster dodges and attack patterns too.

Basically, Nintendo will have to drop the Ubislop copy-paste format to win people over. That means putting more effort into the dungeons, story and towns. EoW was already a step in the right direction, despite its shortcomings. It's just a matter of whether or not they're willing to put actual effort into the next game, and not exploit a shitty gimmick that nobody asked for as a mask for lazy game development.

not using the same map for a third time
more permanent progression, (i.e. give me some cool shit in the mid and late game)
better dungeons,
immediately fire everyone responsible for the storytelling in those games and get anyone with an IQ over 90 that actually cares about telling a cohesive, engaging story.
nerf vertical mobility, not necessarily remove climbing, but it destroys the potential for more involved level design.
nerf healing consumables, being able to much your entire inventory while paused is absolutely ridiculous and not fun,
either reduce capacity or don't make it a free action to heal in combat, maybe both

as it is, the souls games are more zelda than botw & totk

the new formula is too dull, i played Red Dead Redemption 6 years before BotW came out, i already wandered around grassy fields and collecting rare items and such, nowadays every game is trying to copy it, the best solution is to reinvent the format again or go back to the OoT format, open world stuff has been tried to death and worn thin

Also doesn't help that Botw and TotK have extremely dull stories with very little going on to make it interesting, OoT may have had a "save the princess from the great evil" as well but it handled it in proper doses and didn't shove it down your throat that Zelda is the main character and let you adventure off to do other sidequests, Sign Cuck and collecting Koroks aren't real sidequests, they're tasks with no depth

get someone who actually gives two shits about continuity, worldbuilding and characters to write

fire whoever was in charge of making the elemental temples in totk

get rid of most of the meaningless busywork. garbage like korok seeds, disposable weapons, addison etc should all be gone. every landmark should have curated, individually structured activities and reward, not the same shit copypasted hundreds of times, and before you say nuzelda wasn’t the first to do copypasted bullshit, it was certainly the most unbearable and egregious one

if they’re going to give us shrines, for god’s sake don’t leave a third of them empty just because they’re in a cave or some shit

They can make the 4 main dungeons twice as long, fill them with enemies not seen anywhere else, introduce a central mechanic that Link gets access to ever since you visit that dungeon and onwards that can manipulate the environment, like the Divine Beast Map mechanics (but then there are random Divine Beasty secrets out in the world you get access to) and lastly, write a story that doesn't suck and provide voice direction that's worth a damn.

TotK was almost there for me, but it focuses on the wrong stuff with the additional shrines and commoditization of caves, sign dudes, koroks and sky islands. I basically just want BotW but where there can be dungeons found inside the world, like you find them in A Link to the Past, and they're long, seamlessly interwoven with the world itself, some are optional, and the main story isn't toddler garbage writing.

OoT, Majora's Mask, Link's Awakening and Wind Waker all had evocative scriptwriting. Clearly the writers they've used since the DS games and Skyward Sword are complete idiots. That has to change, because they have enough cutscenes and dialogue throughout BotW, but the writing just fucking sucks with how plain and basic it is.

l enjoyed Echoes of Wisdom more than both of those. I may enjoy the monster catching aspect if applied to a 3D BotW style world. Alternatively, do for dungeons, what BotW did for the open world.
Anonymous No.715565918 >>715566209
>>715565534
Exactly. Dungeons feel so small in these games because they don't play to the same scale of the moveset as elsewhere.
In Old Zeldas you couldn't move around that easily outside of dungeons so dungeons conversely felt really huge and mazelike. In BotW the world itself feels gigantic, but dungeons feel like they're as big in size as old-3D dungeons.

Dungeons should feel like you're in some huge area with far to the ceiling and far to get down below, and you can glide from one end to the other, but there's a set of contraptions in the way you have to clear, by going all across it, and solving riddles and defeating enemy groups. Then there should be a mini-boss you can get to by clearing a first set of riddles, and then a second compartment opens that can lead to the boss or something.

I just miss the aspect of dungeons being like little unfolding narratives. That's lost as Shrines are over in a heartbeat and Divine Beasts/Temples are just dealt with too quickly. There's no reason they can't focus on dungeon design in this format, and make really clever use of the "go at it from any angle" idea. It's basically just Great Plateau on repeat but with a bit more confined spaces.

ToTK's Fire Temple almost nailed this vibe, too bad the minecart gimmick is mediocre and you can bypass over half of the dungeon with ultrahand and ascend hacks.
