The original feels like an actual mansion, better puzzles and the game flows better because of the paths you need to take to progress. The new one has better graphics and cutscenes but those things are for mouthbreathers. Both great games but the original is better.

RE1 is basically just one long ass trial and error puzzle game with no real gameplay since the controls suck. My opinion is worth more than nostalgiafags since I'm new to the series. DXDS has some good songs on it though, some of which like Mansion 2nd Visit I prefer over the original. Everyone writes it off because of the Basement theme which isn't even fair, because the Caves music and Black Tiger are way worse. Because they are not identical in terms of gameplay. REmake has autoaim, quickturn, crimsonheads, more and different puzzles, and more New Game+ options. The only part of the level design that feels out of place are the caves section which feel like even more of a slog than in the original, other that that, everything is given more breathing room. In the original, it feels like the first mansion visit is quickly over whereas in REmake you spend more time in it.
