im just gonna say this: localizing seems like torture. cause not only do you have to translate shit into another language, you also have to make sure it makes sense to that new language. its this weird balancing act. if youre TOO faithful to the japanese, the emotions or meaning wont carry over because its too direct of a translation. if youre too loose with it, you get the dragon maid dub, which made Lucoa get angry at the male gaze.

AI is no replacement for actual localizers, what these pieces of media need are localizers who understand this balancing act, instead of AI sloppa or retards who dont care about the source material.

its true. different things mean different things in different cultures. its not even just a japan thing. when Guillermo Del Toro did the english translation for his film Pan's Labyrinth, he translated the spanish for "son of a bitch" into "motherfucker", because while son of a bitch is a very punchy insult with alot of weight behind it in spain, its alot more casual in english.
