I reached this realization about 10-12 years ago. It's why I don't even bother with shooters anymore. You aren't even playing against people, you're playing against a meat puppet facilitating a bot's perfect accuracy and awareness.

And easily 30% of players in any given online shooter are these meat puppet bots. It makes fights almost formulaic. The dynamism disappears. In many rounds it's literally just bots fighting bots with their meat puppets observing. Each puppet individually thinking it's expressing some kind of skill while the bot does all the actual work.

And the human players - well they're all shifting over to games that aren't made for the bots+meatpuppets.

This is what everyone, especially cheaters, say. Always it's downplayed, there can't possibly be that many cheaters.

Then you look at the actual results from anti-cheating efforts taken by valve and you see that, no, there really are that many active cheaters. It gets even worse as you expand the scope of the game, as something like battlefield essentially guarantees every single match has at least one cheater in it, even if they're "only" 1% of the game's population.

Nobody seems to understand just how huge 1% is already, especially for a demographic that ruins everything for everyone else. You can destroy entire countries with 1% of the general population being subversive cheating parasites. Nevermind a competitive videogame.

Players are moving away from first person shooters because the aggregate affect of cheaters is ruining that genre of game for everyone.
If you think you're all fine and dandy playing with cheaters all the time, that's great, you can keep doing that, and nobody will care, because they are playing other games now. Everyone is happier - you get your cheaters, they get to play against actual people.

You're creating fictions in your head imagining that cheating doesn't exist in your shooters, while valve's research and anti-cheating efforts as well as general player sentiments, indicate that is completely false. Cheating is a significant problem and it's driving players away. Nobody wants to play with cheaters, much to the chagrin of the self-professed idiocy from guys like you: "I'm not a cheater, but I would definitely still play with cheaters given a choice because it doesn't affect me personally".

you're going to run into people who have been no lifing the game for a fucking decade and have memorized all spawn areas, where you'll be spawning at in relation to your team, how long it will take you to get to XXX area

also soundwhoring is huge now; most people don't take that into account and run around like headless chicken and scream wallhacks when in reality you're stomping around like a T-rex and people can hear you coming

battlefield is rife with cheaters, though, especially V and 2042. call of duty - i'm not sure; the SBMM now forces your losses by throttling your connection and hitreg so you absolutely cant win gunfights unless you use an OHK weapon

i'm playing halo infinite and its kind of refreshing because the majority of the playerbase are casual players like me. like maybe 1 out of 10 players i run into are exceptionally good at the game (and obviously they bend me over and demolish me). i don't think i've run into a single cheater

i think there's a big difference between casual fps players who just want to shoot some dudes and relax and those who bounce from FOTM to FOTM to try and dominate and crawl up the ladder while the games still fresh and the meta hasn't been discovered

i have no way of proving it but the former probably makes up the majority of FPS players who rarely touch ranked modes.

I'm already a offline solo player gamer. You don't need to sell me the benefits of this thing even more. This has been a long time issue that lead me to leave the multiplayer world. In the future, when AI bots will takeover the multiplayer, this problem won't present anymore.

I only liked cs 1.6 custom games. No one ever cheated in those (cept for fun). Sad custom games just died as a feature. Last game with them was dota 2. Least we got autochess out of that
