They'd do the classic "Claim he's not banned but decline all his runs." tactic. That's what GDQ loves to do. They love to claim, and they do so on reddit especially, that the fact that they ban people left and right for tiny reasons is a "misconception" and "actually the amount of people banned right now you can count on one hand" and "Oh we've only ever banned like eight people in all of GDQ history" which is true technically. The actual "This person is banned do not let them in" is like currently only five people but the amount of people they always constantly decline every run even when its exactly what GDQ is looking for at the time is huge, and it's clear they're shadowbans. People have done tests where they've submitted multi-person runs or races or relays with the shadowbanned person in them and they'll decline them, but then accept other versions of the same run without that person in them.

I know this is bait and I shouldn't even be responding to this but this sentiment does get posted semi-frequently so fuck it; No. The estimate IS supposed to be viewed as a soft time limit, because it's explicitly supposed to account for the run being a worst-case scenario run. Runners are told not to submit their PB time, and instead submit what a "bad" run would get, with some extra time added. If all runs go over estimate, it's a problem for the schedule and that's how you end up getting multiple hours behind and dropping runs to catch back up.

So no, it's not OK when runs consistently go over estimate, and runners should be called out for it.

This year's ESA was definitely better than both of 2024, and I'd even say better than Summer 2023 which I wasn't a fan of either. That one was the gameshow overload one where specific people were all over the show trying to be e-celebs and also was the peak of GDQ tourism in the ESA threads IMO.

However it still wasn't to the level of before Summer 2023 for me, and can best be described as "Alright." It was an incredibly safe ESA, and deliberately so. I don't blame them though, I'd have done the same thing if I was running it. Just prove the thing isn't falling apart and that you can run a functional event still, it was the only route they could go.

Skits and gameshow stuff can be pretty fun if done well, the issue is they're hardly ever done well. Usually a select few try to hog all the attention from it, see: The theater kids from GDQ. And then the event usually goes overboard by having multiple a day.

I think nonruns are a good way to stop burn out and add some variety and freshness, just don't go overboard. One of each for an event is fine. One gameshow, one gimmick run like ikea building or wordle or flash relay or whatever, one showcase. Absolutely no more.

For PC, have you played the psychonauts 1 & 2? Platforming is quite a bit weaker compared to something like Mario, but they both have great plots, characters, humor, and settings. For pure platforming, try A Hat in Time (mario-inspired) or Yooka Laylee (banjo-inspired). Yooka Laylee 2 is considerably better but that one is a tight 2d platformer inspired by DKC Returns.

Not really to be honest. Lots of people were at their wits end with ESA, specifically Edenal and Planks, and were just looking for an out. That was their out. There was also entirely seperate discord drama going on too where Edenal and Planks weren't listening to critcism. Then when it died down the metoo thing reignited the discussion again as they tried to shut shit down on the discord. Apparently behaviour like that was happening behind the scenes constantly already. Which is why people like Metako and Das had already quit before the Metoo thing happened.

It did lead to a humorous tell all on /v/ by Das where she revealed that they did everything in their power to stop Edenal from replacing the scheduling team with ChatGPT which he thought was a genius idea. Also he finds Goosebert the funniest shit known to man.
