Given Japanese culture, many more children are exposed to non-Japanese works simply because, well, they're expected to read more and there is more existing children programming aimed at cultivating a well rounded worldview (unlike in today's America, where the modern American child is expected to only think about themselves right now).
Like, you'll see characters in anime referencing Dog of Flanders, Anne of Green Gables, the French Revolution because those ARE popular and known in Japan. The same is true of Alice in Wonderland, and no, not because it's "isekai", but because it's one of many imported ideas passed on from America to Japan.
