>having to fake your OS to the game because even Linux games devs stopped with native clients over just using Proton

You just need a PS3 emulator for Linux, that way you can double you vidya library.

If it was Not an Emulator it would have a name that explains it.

You're still wasting CPU cycles with a translation layer.

As soon as there's a version of Linux that has all the basic functionalities of Windows (and using them doesn't feel like jumping through cruel hoops in a hazing ritual) I'll swap to it. Hopefully it's SteamOS one day.

mint is fine, but I like nobara which gives me the latest software and kernel without any setup. Haven't tried cachy nor bazzite but they seem decent.

I'm using this thing because i was using manjaro and people screamed at me now i use this one, which is basically the same shit but with yay instead of pamac.

It's better than Win10/11 but worse than WIn7

Stay on Windows. I started dual booting Windows 11 and CachyOS (touted as having the best performance in games by some) and I can tell you firsthand that Linux is just no worth it for the average person. The amount of problems I ran into that I had to spend hours troubleshooting is headache-inducing. I loved the ability to customize everything and have total control over my OS, but the amount of time I wasted "fixing" my setup could have spent actually working or playing games. I also recommend you stay away if you have a NVIDIA GPU. Performance on most games I tried was 10-30% lower. If you're still curious, install it on an extra SSD. Just be prepared to deal with a ton of small issues like bugs, software compatibility, and performance.

I personally choose to move to windows because was also full of annoying unfixable bugs, and i do tend to want to do things that either require some ancient WIndows 95 feature that works half of the time, or some shady as fuck software in a boomer website that costs $299 and makes your machine choppy.
But linux is also a miserable little pile of bugs that you mostly can fix but some you can't.
