Valve just killed CS2 trading, new items traded are locked to your account for 7 days and you can no longer trade CS2 items for other game items. This change effectively kills trading sites and gambling.

TF2 might be next.

This issue is way less of a big deal than you think it is. The implications are interesting, but this is not a trading killer at all. It does kill CS2 gambling though which is a net positive for everybody.

Holy based. I hope it comes to TF2.

If this is the only Valve can curtail the gambling problem, fuck it.
It's still sad though because the idea of exchanging items from different games because people value them is fun. If it happens to TF2, I wonder if the CS economy will collapse since they use TF2's keys as a currency.

Everyone will just wait a week and trade in bigger batches.

Yeah, this is what's going to happen.
I don't see how this will change much of anything.

TF2 already has this mechanism, since forever.

This is a more severe version of the Marketplace restrictions that already exist for TF2 and have since the Steam Marketplace and the escrow system as a companion to the authenticator became things. It won't kill gambling sites or trading sites, it'll just make RMT a bit harder.

it's pretty big, especially if it comes to TF2.
TF2 economy is basically managed exclusively by bots and uses currency items like keys and refined. If you wish to acquire something you don't trade "item x item" but instead "item x currency -> currency x item"
>>715582392
No it doesn't you stupid fucking nigger. You are free to trade away your items the second you get them unless you buy directly from the steam market.

>It won't kill gambling sites or trading sites
yes it will, if you trade away your items and got fucking by gambling you can scream to daddy support that the trade was unfair and they will undo it due to this new restriction.
Anonymous No.715582753 [Report]
It'd be more damaging if your whole account got trade-limited for a week after every little trade, which would fuck over trade sites more than the players unless they got hundreds of accounts on standby to not get banned.

They'll help you about as often as they will the exact same happening for TF2, which is to say, Valve doesn't hold any affiliation with gambling sites and if you choose to use them that's on your own head. Something they warn you about whenever you try to sign into a non-Steam website with your Steam credentials for integration, usually game backpack viewing.

If it gets implemented in TF2 would this mean we go back to the old days of everyone hanging out in trade servers again?
Anonymous No.715583239 [Report]
>>715583169
Nothing much would actually change for TF2 because this is virtually identical to buying something off of the Marketplace in terms of restrictions

Gambling site will just demand that they hold the skins for a week before you can do anything with them.

No idea. But it works for me since I've sold literally thousands of $ worth of dropped cases and skins.
I haven't paid for a game out of my own pocket for a decade.

I don't make any money off of this but I like filling my loadouts with cosmetics with the tag 'Crafted by Anon'

retard
other valve games might add this eventually but they don't have the same gambling problem so it will probably stay as a CS2 thing
