TO BE FAIR, some of the translation fucked up characters(Beatrix) and stuff like Eternal Darkness(Necron) and especially one of the last scenes with Zidane and Kuja(learning how the conversation actually went is fucking tilting).
Still some people are too used to just smashing x or having the game be more "cinematic" with it's storytelling and not have you think at all. Remember that there are still people who thinks Cloud is some hyper emo and thinks FFVII story is "confusing".
I'm not saying FF games are some le deep media or that you need Rick&Morty IQ to enjoy it, the thing is that it doesn't lay everything out in front of you and that confuses gamers.
It's not too surprising that game stories aren't taken too seriously in any other medium when good stories that are recommended by gamers are always stuff like TLOU because it's just basically a movie or Undertale(that I like myself) because it's relatively simple and short with almost episodic character focuses(Toriel -> Papyrus -> Undyne -> Alphys/Metatron -> Asgore -> Pacifist ending with everyone).

If you actually read and think a bit you should get FFIX story. I will still blame how shitty Eternal Darkness dialogue cuts were as well as change of the name to Necron was because of character limit.
Vagrant Chocobo FFIX translation changes video series is a good watch for anyone who has played FFIX.

In English version when Zidane goes to save his dying brother, Kuja asks him why did he come, and Zidane says "Wouldn't you do the same for me if you knew I was dying?" and Kuja is quiet, and Zidane goes "...Never mind". Aka turning the scene into a joke.
In original, rather than asking if Kuja would do same to him, do you know what Zidane says? Basically

And then they sit there quietly together.

So instead of using his pic rel line from title, they turned the somber moment with his brother into a joke.

The Japanese name makes it clear he's supposed to be some kind of abstract concept rather than some bloke called Necron.
He was obviously also supposed to be a nod to Cloud of Darkness (which is again obfuscated by the name change), Final Fantasy's other famous 'literally who?' final boss.

In the world of FFIX, summons are supposed to be the amalgamation of peoples thoughts, memories and legends into a magical being.
I think Necron was supposed to be something of a similar nature created from the fear people have for death.

I absolutely do. I remeber FF7's story as well. But there stories are so big that it's harder to grasp them in full in your mind, so there is the illusion of not remembering it. For example, dark souls 1 story or resident evil 4 story is easily summarizable, while FF7 or FF9 is harder to summarize. It's like an epic novel book.

I cannot hate her. She was a knight acting out her duty in the believe, her actions served to protect Alexandria. When she found out the truth, she immediately turned against her queen. Though, she was kind of stupid for taking this long to see it. Her worst crime was being a mindless weapon for so long, and her redemption arc fell too short to be imactful.
The thing is, if I compare her to the likes of Kuja, Brahne or these stupid clowns, she just isn't one bit evil.
And she probably rewards her soldiers with hot lesbian sex.
