If Sony was smart, they could probably do something with these characters outside of Japan. Considering how big franchises like Hello Kitty and Animal Crossing are, they could easily make a nice cozy game starring what's supposed to be their mascots, and actually release said game globally rather than just in Japan. There's a market out there that they're not tapping into, and they don't even have to waste $400 million on it.
